The numbers continue to climb.

It will not break Avatar's worldwide record, but it's not done yet. There's still a slim chance it will catch Titanic's 2nd place worldwide total. There's a better chance that it will climb into the top ten of the adjusted for inflation list. It only needs 42.5 million to reach that milestone.

I am thinking about seeing it a 6th time Tuesday morning. Who wants to join me?

It beat Titanic's original run already, but Titanic went back into the theaters about 5 years ago in 3D and got another $200M

It has not beaten Titanic's worldwide record, which is what I said.

I was not refuting that. I am just saying Titanic padded their worldwide number with the 3D release about 5 years ago. Star Wars would have already overtaken Titanic worldwide if not for that extra run in the theaters.

That does not matter. 30-40% of the most successful films were released for an extra week or two...sometimes more than once.

$95 million to a $1 billion domestic total. Can it do it?

To bad there wasn't all the pirate site back in the day or titanic song numbers would be less.

Imagine what the numbers would be if you couldn't see a pirated version of TFA or if you had to wait almost a year from its release to see it on DVD (out in redbox in April)

Very highly unlikely. It earned $6.9M this past weekend. It will continue to drop 40-50% weekly as it has been. Movies lose a ton of steam around this point. It will be lucky to get to $950M, I think.

Disappointing.

A shitty movie like Avatar does not deserve that record.

The film opened on December 19, 1997 and it wasn't released on VHS until September 1, 1998.

Was it still in theaters then? Really?

A well orchestrated social media go-see-it-one-more-time campaign could do the trick...

...should I start it?
