The idea of a live-action Star Wars TV series has actually been in the works for a long, long time. There was a project commissioned years ago by longtime Lucasfilm producer Rick McCallum, who enlisted writers such as Battlestar Galactica’s Ron Moore. The series followed rival families struggling over the control of the seedy underside of the Star Wars universe and was largely set within the subterranean level of the metropolis planet of Coruscant (the Empire’s urban-sprawl-covered home planet). The story was set between the original Star Wars film trilogy and the prequels, a time period that allowed for all sorts of potential appearances from classic figures from the Star Wars universe. Fifty scripts were written and McCallum called them the most “provocative, bold, and daring material that we’ve ever done.” Ultimately the project was deemed too expensive for any broadcast or basic cable network, while HBO passed on it since there wasn’t a large enough ownership stake available.

As long as it's done right and not like that crappy battle star galactica (new version) then I'm all for it. All it takes is a shitty tv show to doom the movie series. That said, if they do it then Boba Fett needs a strong role.

Wasn't that George Lucas' yes-man on the prequels? I wouldn't trust a word that dude says

Has any network station ever pulled off something so great that it gives you hope for this?

I'm not trying to be pessimistic. I'm serious. Network TV doesn't have the strongest history of making well acted big budget high production value television.

Netflix, HBO maybe showtime? Sure.

AMC? Give them a shot.

Network TV? Hard pass

Isn't that all the Skywalker family saga really is, at its core?

Lost. The pilot alone costs as much as a low budget movie to shoot.

As The Coruscant Turns?
All My Wookies?

If HBO, who doenst mind dropping huge numbers into production costs passes, what makes anyone think ABC is going to open up the wallet enough to do this right?

Hopefully they get away from the Skywalker family. There are literally hundreds of stories they could tell of the Jedi vs Sith going back thousands of years. I wish they would go back and tell some of the OG Sith and Jedi stories.

That's still part of the Skywalker story. I'm talking a thousand years before Skywalker.

That's so far back it'd be like the beginning or something like that. Hell, timelines could run forever on that. I think there are enough holes in between the movies that can be filled with a series.

BTW, anyone know if the Boba Fett and Han Solo movies are still in the works?

The Star Wars book that goes back the furthest is Dawn of the Jedi, going back 25,000 years before the Skywalkers, then Lost Tribe of the Sith, etc etc etc.

There are so many interesting stories out there beyond the Skywalker saga. They need to branch out.
