My favorite is Dave Chapelle: Killing Them Softly with Eddie Murphy: Raw as a close second

Bill Hicks is great

He's great, but the thread was about single performance and I can't think of a single performance of his that is better than the ones I listed.

Overall material is a different question. He is up there in the top five of all time.

Bill Burr- is the goddamn king. His Monday Morning Podcast is free, he used to write for Chappelle's Show. Dude is awesome. Give him a shot.

Yep, thats why I wasn't able to list him. Some of his more famous stand-ups were done at BBC shows and such.

Ron White - pick one, it doesn't matter. Any would be more funny than anything else listed. To me. YMMV. IMHO.

Louis C.K.

I like some of Bill Maher's specials too, but he's too political for a lot of people

Was Completely Serious the one where he talked about NFL players celebrating too much? If so, yes that one is one of the funniest I've seen. And I just caught bits and pieces of Aziz's last one and laughed like I was watching it for the first time.

you seem like a fan, did you ever hear his ten minute rag on a hostile philly crowd? it was awesome. i love burr.

there's also a lot of comics that have passed recently worth a mention: giraldo, schimmel (was mentioned), patrice o neal, and richard jeni.

jeni was also a guy who could work blue or clean who i liked either way.

Yes, but Dennis Leary's No Cure for Cancer was mentioned. Isn't that known for just being material stolen from Hicks?

I caught his act on HBO's Young Comedians from the 80's in NOLA. Gold. Pure Gold.

One of the funniest five to ten minute sets I've seen. Especially when he talks about fighting a southerner.

A few months back I picked this up out of the $5 DVD bin at Walmart figuring I'd give it a watch and really enjoyed it. It's basically 2 hours of brilliant one-liners. Not necessarily one of the greatest of all time but most certainly worth watching.
