Spinoff: Sony reportedly extends Ghostbusters review embargo to day of release

Which, if true, it means this movie is most likely a huge turd.
From Reddit:

Midnight's Edge (the same group that has made the excellent documentary-style videos covering the reboot) has mentioned that they received word that the review embargo for Ghostbusters has been pushed back from next Monday to the day the movie opens. This is coming from Andre, one of the guys who runs Midnight's Edge, so this likely is true and it would explain why no official reviews have been out yet.

Here is the comment in case you guys can't access the link:
"We have recently learned that the review embargo got extended from Monday morning to Monday evening to when the movie opens. I have reason to believe this is because many reviews from established outlets are mixed to negative, so they want to keep a lid on it. Only select fans who they know will say positive stuff are allowed to speak early."
This would explain why this guy here ( https://twitter.com/DanielRPK/status/750491444285145088) showered the movie with praise -- it's not an official review yet Sony knows he will say nothing but good things about the movie. It's pretty much exactly the same thing Fant4stick did. They had an early screening that only Michael B. Jordan's friends attended and they posted a bunch of tweets saying how awesome the movie was. The review embargo didn't lift until like the day before or the day of release (I can't remember when but it was somewhere along those lines). Once the embargo was finally lifted and the official reviews went live it was game over.
Looks like Feigbusters is going down the same road as Fant4stick. Whenever a movie embargoes reviews until the day of its release it's pretty much telegraphing to everyone that the movie is garbage and they don't want people to know about it.

That's a really bad sign.

I think it'll make it's money back with the help of overseas

There has never been an embargo like this where the movie ended up getting good reviews. Sony is trying to hide the criticism and just hope a lot of people show up opening night out of curiosity.

Never a good sign. I wonder if it's not only reviews but test audiences as well.

I'm really surprised that critics seem to be not liking it considering how much they usually like Paul Feig. I thought at least it would do decent with critics. Nothing is final yet, but obviously the writing is on the wall.
It looks to me like maybe they just went too wacky with it. The original had it's wacky moments, but there were elements of horror throughout. I mean, there were moments that terrified me as a kid. It was really a dark comedy, IMO. This one looked like a parody of it. All I've seen are trailers, but that's the way things appeared to be going. I can't say anything for sure until seeing it, but the writing on the wall is pretty clear at this point.

I'd go see it if Leslie Jones wasn't in it. She's that bad

I think they're worried about reviewers not being able to be objective. Any review, positive or negative, is gonna cause a shitstorm.

They're worried about bad reviews plain and simple, whatever their excuses are for them (people not being objective, preconceived notions, etc). They've tested it, and they're worried.

Heartbreaking. I know that the M/TV board was behind this movie from the start. A shame that you guys won't get the movie you were hoping for.

Do you blame them? Every frame that has been released has been criticized to death.

she does ruing just about everything she is involved in
the issue is jones/mccarthy, and everything you have to do to fit a movie around their schticks

Exactly! People seem to forget that the 1984 original film, while funny, had a lot of genuinely scary moments. The one that most frequently comes to mind is the scene in Dana's apartment when the hands come out of her chair and drag her into the kitchen where she is possessed by an awaiting Zuul.
The humor was hardly ever over the top. I think the most over-the-top moment in that film is when Rick Moranis is walking around Central Park looking for the Gatekeeper. You take a look at the trailer for the reboot and you will see the vast majority of the trailer's run time is over-the-top comedy.

Has been solid in a few movies.
After Spy, I actually kind of like her. And she was hilarious in bridesmaids and Identity Theif.
If she has a solid supporting cast she isn't bad but she can't carry a movie.
I love Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wigg can be good too.
I actually kind of liked the preview the first time I saw it and then Leslie Jones showed up.
And like every SNL skit she's in,she has terrible delivery, one shtick, and every joke is terrible.
Why the frick was she cast in this movie.
And why is Sasheer Zamata not given all of her roles?

And now we have more that people can debate about. "They gave it bad reviews because the projector was fricking up."
Prepare yourself for the "Disney paid them off" reports also.
