This is a remake I have no desire to watch. I'm perfectly happy with my enjoyment and memories of the cinematography and performances in the original.

What possible purpose could this serve? I can see making remakes of movies to update the story, reboot, or because of technological advances in sfx. But this movie has nothing to change or update imo.

I wish filmmakers would follow Roger Ebert's advice. He wanted bad movies to be remade. Too often remakes are inferior to the original. Why not remake movies that had a lot of potential, but weren't very good?

I hope they call it Butterfly and make it an escape from Angola ( the prison) movie with car crashes, a black sidekick and a cameo with Dr Dre as the head of the evil jailers. The boring original was too slow with all those jungle shots and old dude actors. That Steve McQueen guy wasn't charismatic enough to carry that limp script so I can't wait to watch this on my iPhone .

I thought I was being serious. Man, what Jerry Bruckheimer could have done with this . Remember the gay character? Up date him as a transsexual and let Gary Busey play him and instead of a boat made out of coconuts let it be a laser- fired boat rocket ship that can transcend the space time continuum.

The original is about as good as it gets for this type of movie. A remake of this classic has no place to go but down.

The original, while much different from the novel, is one of my all-time favorite films. I hope the remake does it justice (but it's doubtful).

That, and they know some fool will fork over the ticket price. It's always about the money.

Have we managed to clone Steve Mcqueen? No? Then I'm not all that interested.

The original wasn't good so I'm sure they can only do better

It's a good story and young people don't like old movies.

Do they want younger actors that they recognize?

Do they want a clearer picture?

Is there some way to modernize a story like this one?

I remember my brother telling me his kids didn't like black & white movies and thought that was silly. Hearing young people don't like old movies is even more silly. You saying young people instead of kids makes me think you're talking about young adults. That's really sad.

What's silly or sad about it? They're missing out on some good movies but it's understandable.
