Mel Gibson's IRL craziness makes any movie of his less enjoyable for me. Most actors, I can separate their character from their personality, but he's so far over the top I can't do it with him.

1) I hope to God you watch this movie unedited and not on TV.

2)

William Wallace: And if this is your army, why does it go?

Veteran: We didn't come here to fight for them!

Young Soldier: Home! The English are too many!

William Wallace: Sons of Scotland! I am William Wallace.

Young Soldier: William Wallace is seven feet tall!

William Wallace: Yes, I've heard. Kills men by the hundreds. And if HE were here, he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse.

[Scottish army laughs]

William Wallace: I *am* William Wallace! And I see a whole army of my countrymen, here in defiance of tyranny. You've come to fight as free men... and free men you are. What will you do with that freedom? Will you fight?

Veteran: Fight? Against that? No! We will run. And we will live.

William Wallace: Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!

i saw it for the first time about a year ago. Thought it was long and boring at times and that Wallace deserved the death he got.
Can honestly say i didn't think it was that great, or that i care to watch it again.

I'd watch Gladiator any day of the week.

I loved this movie when I first saw it when I was like 10, but I don't care for it anymore. Wallace's speeches make me roll my eyes.

No- I watched the dvd. I will not watch movies on TV interrupted by commercials- saw it was on and I had nothing to do last night.

I was highly entertained. I do not care about historical problems- that is not why i watch movies. It was stunning and it was a great story- It goes up in the canon of films I love, definitely. will watch again. I want to watch Rob Roy next.

FREEDOM!

If Gibson would not have become this public joke, would he have kept directing movies? I feel like his public image ruined his career and people thought it was funny to hate on him. Dude was SOLID as a director

Good to know he's coming out with something new in 2016:

Hacksaw Ridge

quote:

WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people and becomes the first Conscientious Objector in American history to win the Congressional Medal of Honor.

It's great, but remember that it's fiction. Completely fiction.

why does everyone keep saying that? It is a hollywood movie. If your mind can't grasp that it is entertainment and not complete historical accuracy, you are pretty much a dumbshit.

It's not just historically inaccurate, it's 95% fantasy. Even thif Scottish got pissed off for the way Robert de Bruce (whose more of a Scottish national hero than Wallace). Wallace was a nobleman, probably not very Scottish and probably served in the armies of Edward before he started on his path. Wallace was not tried for being disloyal to Edward. He was tried for massacring men women and children. I could go on and on. It's a good movie, but it is insulting to the real historical figures nevertheless

Damn, I was hoping it was going to be real, like Gladiator.
