Dexter started off strong but then after I accepted it as a comedy it was fine towards the end.

I enjoyed Dexter. I constantly hear the complaints about post season 4, but I didn't hate any single season, largely because I enjoyed Hall's portrayal of the character so much.

The shows are very different so depends on what you like.
House of Cards is huge on gravitas, can get bogged down in the details of the political battles (unless you like that which some do), and does a good job of keeping things interesting and evolving. Writing this, thinking back to the early seasons a ton of crazy twists and turns have happened.
Admittedly, I only got through the first season of Dexter although I may pick it up in the future. Started off good but seemed to lose something...started getting that cliched feel for me.
To borrow from above:
Exactly. I've found the primary thing I personally look for is a certain degree of seriousness (I've seen described as "gravitas" and like the term). GOT is a prime example. Breaking Bad pretty much.
I would have thought Dexter would be reeking of it based on the serial killer plot but it started seeming less so pretty quickly for some reason. Aside from a few bad episodes, HOC kept this throughout.

Exactly how I feel. Bautista was a good dude. Debra Morgan is very high on my list of characters who nearly ruined a show for me along with Skyler White and Audrey Raines. Pretty much all the women on Dexter where horrible characters in my opinion, at least to the point of the series I'm at right now.

I did like Rita although she is hotter now than back then.
Stoke was the fricking man
Lithgow gave a tremendous performance as usual
Jimmy Smits like lithgow had a great performance
I really didnt like how debra found out it was dexter, and she wanted to kill him but also was falling for him at the same time too.
