Serious question: why is GoT aired on Sundays and not Saturdays?

Personally I would love to have a GoT watching party but it's tough to get my friends on board with hanging out (much less drinking) at night on a Sunday. What gives?

Probably more people at home to watch as opposed to going out on a Saturday

People generally don't watch TV on Friday and Saturday like they do on Sunday-Thursday.

i work in that business and know the reps from Starz and HBO pretty well. Starz moved all their prime time hits (Power, Outlander) to Sundays from Saturday nights last year, and when they did i asked him why.

He told me Sunday nights had always been the premier night for hour long shows like those. Said Saturday had very high DVR numbers but live viewership wasn't that high for obvious reasons. Most people are busy on Saturday nights and Sunday nights most people are home preparing for the week.

Dont see it changing anytime soon.

Cause no one wants to stay home on a Saturday to watch TV. Plus better water cooler talk

Because people have social lives and do shite on Saturday night. It wouldn't even have 1/3 of the live watchers if they played it on Saturday night. Sunday everyone works in the morning, so that's the best time.

What makes you think your friends would want to spend Saturday nights sitting at your house watching TV unless you're in middle school? And kids your age shouldn't be drinking anyway.

You clearly haven't reached your thirties yet.

Do your parents even let you watch GoT?

I still don't know many 30 year old men who want to spend Saturday night watching Game of Thrones with their buddies. No one is going to burn a Saturday night watching that, especially if they have kids. You're delusional if you think your friends may get on board if it came on Saturday night.

Late 30's, sadly. It's not the day of the week; we still meet up for dinner and drinks on Sundays, Mondays, or whenever. We just don't get together to watch a TV show.

There's a pub here that has Game of Thrones watch parties on Sunday nights, and they're dicks about people talking or making noise during the show and supposedly draws a big crowd. But that just doesn't sound fun to me. Intently watching a tv show is not my idea of a social activity.

Maybe you could look around to find a bar like that.

But it is the day of the week. As hard as this is for the OP to grasp, the people who's job it is to program TV shows actually understand when the best times for shows is and program accordingly. For some biazzaro reason those people's who's jobs are on the line didn't think it would be cool for people to have Saturday Night watch parties and instead went with what decades of research has shown and that is Sunday is the best TV night for overall viewership.

1. I think you're being a little harsh calling management dicks for that.

2. It's one hour long. You don't think there is plenty of social activity in a pub filled with GOT fans, who will most likely talk amongst each other before and after the episode while drinking?

Please tell me more about how my friend group acts. I'm excited to hear your expert analysis of why the 5 engineering nerds I've known since college all of a sudden want to go clubbing rather than potluck a GoT themed dinner at someone's house and watch the show that we all enjoy.

The reason I asked in the first place is that I don't see how dinner and an hour long show at someone's house is any different than dinner and a movie. Which is a Saturday night staple (when it's not football season, anyway).

You're missing the point. I get that HBO is going to show it when they get the most bang for their buck. I get that people determine these things for a living. What I'm asking is why the viewers don't have more of an appetite for long shows like this on a Saturday.

I mean it's already been spelled out for you essentially. Most people at least like to pretend they aren't losers and do shite on Saturday nights.

I honestly can't remember the last time I was at home from 8-2 a.m. on a Saturday night.

Well to be honest, that was not the point in your original post

And once again, because more people are out of the house on Saturday night than Sunday night. It's that simple.
