I was watching Shallow Hal last night with my wife and had totally forgotten the stomach punch you get when Hal sees Cadence for the first time while not hypnotized. Man that is a brutal scene and acted perfectly by Jack Black. What are some other sad scenes in movies that are mostly funny?

They saved that scene through editing. Earlier in the film, Hal is walking out of the hospital ward and the camera tilts up, but they cut away before you can see the name over the entrance. They saved that reveal for the scene you're referencing. Way more powerful.

Barbershop when Calvin gives the middle finger to all his employees that he sold the shop to some street bidness man. In a real life scenario, that's really F'd up.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, when Clark is stuck in the attic and pulls out all the old home movies. I don't know if sad is the right word, maybe melancholic or nostalgic is better. But someone was cutting onions the first time I saw that. Didn't expect it from comedy.

Inside Out.

My then 6-year old's best friend down the street had just moved when we saw this. And a few weeks ago, we found out that another boy that he plays with just about every day, and lives just 3 houses down from the other friend that moved, is moving away this summer. I really feel for him.
