I'm 20 minutes in Chapter 1 and I just dont know how much I believe this story. The gay southern accent seems really fake to me.

Finished it last night. Was decent, but I started to lose interest towards the end.

probably my favorite part of the whole series was whenever Uncle Jimmy was involved. interesting series. just finished it up. pretty interesting piece.

I found it on google maps. Easy to find across the road from South Forty Crossing. You can just search
Good podcast. It had some spots where I just wanted to get to the end. But interesting.

As expected, great production value from TAL and John B was an epic character, but you could tell they were hoping for more to develop and it kinda stalls at the end.

Agreed. I've talked to dozens of people with that same accent.
As for John B, anyone that has spent time in rural Alabama has most likely met someone like John B. Eccentric, never married, lives with and takes care of momma, rumored to be gay, highly intelligent, very opinionated, etc. I suspect some of their anger at the world stems from their attempts to suppress their homosexual desires.

I think for Southerners, this story is mostly kind of interesting at its best. For Northerners who haven't experienced the rural south and people like this it will create sympathy and feelings I guess. It was interesting-ish, but just petered out by the end. Was a 3 out of 5 stars.

It's probably more a rural/urban difference than a North/South one. A few of my friends here in Birmingham are astounded something like this, and people like that, reside 20 minutes outside of town. These are people that have lived their entire life in Alabama, though mostly in Birmingham.
And maybe it's just because I've been drawn to eccentric personalities my whole life, but John B didn't seem all that unusual to me. I've met dozens of people like him in this state. The story is still fascinating and entertaining, but I'm only through 3 episodes. I've heard it kind of loses its appeal in the coming episodes.

Yea you could tell they wanted it to snowball into something much bigger with the gold and the cousins and Tyler, but in the end (atleast until now) there wasn't much to discover on that front so it just went back to John.
I still found him to be incredibly interesting and funny as hell. I also thought it was cool learning where "mad as a hatter" comes from and the process of mercury vaporizing or flash forging or whatever they call it. That's some crazy shite.

It was great. I've met all of those types of folk all over the South. But yeah, Bibb County, Alabama. John B is definitely a character and the podcast really slowed down after episode 2.
