Two new movies were released on HBO this month with Ryan Reynolds: Criminal and Self Less. I read the Plots to see if I was interested. Anyone else see what I see? They are basically the exact same movie.

Criminal:
In this slam-bang action thriller, a violent death-row inmate (Kevin Costner) with a rare brain condition undergoes an experimental procedure to implant the memories and skills of a deceased CIA agent in an effort to thwart a terrorist plot.

Self/Less:
A terminally-ill billionaire undergoes a radical operation that transplants his consciousness into the body of a healthy young man, but finds his life in danger when he uncovers the terrifying secret of the procedure and the sinister organization behind it.

Ryan Reynolds is incredibly lucky he found a hit with Deadpool. He continues to pick shitty project after shitty project.

I made it 15 minutes into Criminal. I made it about 45 minutes into Self/Less.

Fair comment. I did, for some reason, enjoy Voices. He plays a serial killer.

Does he need to fire his agent? For such a charismatic, good looking guy, his history is awful. And he hardly ever follows up a hit with anything other than a flop.

It stormed all NYE weekend and I couldn't sleep, so for some reason, I watched both of these.

It's "Criminal" that Reynolds was even on the cover of that movie. He's in it for 5 mins, maybe less.

Self/Less was like watching a B movie bad...

He's probably making too much money to care about shetty movies.

I look at a guy like Ryan Reynolds and I wonder why he doesn't have the success of a guy like Chris Pratt. Chris Pratt is getting paid blockbuster money.

Slightly different personalities and range. Pratt has also picked better roles since breaking out into "leading man" territory", with the recent flop being an exception.

Very slightly. Reynolds is a bit more acerbic (but that's because Pratt is the archetypical nice guy), but they can both do decent drama. Woman in Gold, Buried, Definitely Maybe, and the Captive all prove that Reynolds can actually act. But he's most at home, like Pratt, in funny, quick mouthed roles with action or straight comedies. For Pratt's drama credentials, see Moneyball, Her (the limited screen time he has), & Zero Dark Thirty (the limited screen time he has)

I watched Criminal out of boredom, Reynolds is in it for a solid ten minutes and that's it.

He just needs to quit making crappy movies about switching bodies.
