Both directing AND acting.

That's gotta be hard to do

Just in the middle of your own scene, going "CUT, THAT frickIN SUCKED"

People must really hate you by the end of it

Getting Affleck was the best thing Snyder did for BvS. Easily.

Getting Affleck to direct Batman? Maybe better.

Honestly, I think Affleck can do a better job than Nolan with the actual source material.

While Chris Nolan might be the best director in the industry for such a film, Ben Affleck is not chopped liver. He has proven again and again he has very, very good director and acting chops. See Gone Baby, Gone, The Town, Argo, etc. He can do action very well and realistically. He can also portray intensity through the screen incredibly well.

My $.02 is affleck is a better director. So much of nolan's stuff is due to awesome scripts/premises.

My issue with affleck is I think he plays basically the same character in every movie. It will probably work for batman but its limited range.

I'm fvcking JACKED about this! Idk why he gets the hate, I'm a huge Affleck fan. He's been killing it lately.

I agree with someone about directing and acting in a film, though. Is that not the weirdest thing ever? Do you have like a co-director who tells you if YOU are the one who sucked in a scene? How does that work?

Exactly. I should've finished my thought in my post. Whatever "cred" he has now has zip to do with Good Will Hunting.

There's typically a 2nd chair Director as well as a Cinematographer in all films.

completely agree. I mentioned earlier that I liked Nolans films, but by no means where those the definitive batman films. Someone else is capable of making much better versions. Let's hope it's Affleck.

its funny, affleck used to catch all of the shite for riding damon's coattails on Good Will Hunting saying he didn't contribute much to screenplay, but he's now more accomplished behind the camera

Until confirmed, I will hold out hope that Affleck is better than this.

ETA: And by better, I mean more original.

You can't be serious with that shite.

I'll be damned if I ever see a series of Batman movies better than Nolan's.

They're both very good directors. No reasonable person would deny that. But you can't discount Nolan's directing chops simply because his movies have great premises/scripts - because he's usually the one who creates and writes those scripts.

He's a good director, but hating on Nolan does seem to be the smarmy hipster cause du jour.

Like Spider-man, we don't need a "reboot" every couple of years. But, we're going to get them, again and again until the characters lose all meaning.

Well you better find some fireproof luggage for your trip to hell because someone will eventually give us a film version of the Dark Knight DETECTIVE that is a much more impressive version of Batman than we've seen so far.

And the key, imo, is this new direction they seem to be heading where they drop the origin retell and pick up with an experienced Batman.

All for it, as its someone different then what's been going on in DC movie plans. Not to mention I think he's a solid director so far

As far as him acting I couldn't but think he may be perfect for Batman as I was playing Arkham Knight

I think Nolan is solid, but his films are good mainly due to the scripts IMHO. He has great ideas that he teases out, but I find his characters mostly flat. And I also think his movies are far too long. I also find some of his action sequences confusing and disjointed.

Affleck's films are much tighter, and cohesive to me. More of a human element to them, I really cared what happened to characters in argo - interstellar I didn't care.

DOn't get me wrong, I enjoyed all of nolan's film. They are certainly two of the top directors for hollywood action blockbusters today.

I suspect that it will be a good flick, especially if they can omit the origin story angle.

The first 2 Nolan Batman's were really good. Who knows if Affleck can top that but I think he'll do a great job at following some type of source material, especially with Batman already being established

Argo was such a mediocre movie. Directing really wasn't that special. The Town really wasn't that spectacular either. I haven't seen anything else he's directed, but the Town and Argo are both movies that just go through the motions and lack genuineness...pretty reflective of Ben Affleck's acting actually.

I can't see him doing a Batman movie that isn't its own entity. It's going to try being like Nolan's Batmans and will suffer because of it.

Well to be fair, ones a true story from the 70s and one is science fiction in the future involving space travel to foreign worlds.

And you chose maybe Affleck's best and one not in Nolan's top 3.

Memento vs. Gigli. See how that works?
