Started watching this last night.
After 2 episodes, I am hooked.
I have heard many good things about this series over the years and not sure why it took me this long to watch it, but it is as good as advertised.

Depressing though that it is only 2 short seasons.
Even more depressing is that Netflix only has these available on disc so now I have to wait for the next 2 episodes to come in.

Good show. Most will say the second season dropped off and it did but only because they had to try and wrap up storylines. It was too expensive to film

Season 1 was awesome. Big drop off in season 2. Still good but not great.

Deadwood was great because of the liberal use of cock and count. I rolled

Woah Woah Woah... I've seen Rome and I'm currently near the end of season 2 of the Wire so I can't say anything good or bad about Deadwood, but I don't know how you could have the Sopranos behind Rome. I really like the Wire but would still put Sopranos over it, but I could see how someone wanted to rank it higher. Rome on the other hand can't compete with sopranos. If they had been able to make it for the full 4-5 seasons the writers imagined then it would probably be a lot closer IMO.

Spartacus Blood and Sand was pretty good. Not too sure about this prequel though.

One of the selling points of the new John Carter of Mars movie is that it's packed with actors from Rome.

I was interested in this after reading your post then I read the summary and..

From IMDB:

Civil War vet John Carter is transplanted to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior.

It was good enough for Tolkien and James Cameron to rip off, but hey, you're the expert.

Just sounds pretty funny when you read that. not claiming to be an expert or say that the movie will suck.

Loved this series. Season 1 was better, but, season 2 had some really good moments.

Mostly with Titus Pullo and Vorenus.

I thought it was hilarious when Titus Pullo was trying to explain to Vorenus how to please his wife and talking about the clitoris ("there is a button, pay you attention to that ..." or something like that) and Vorenus got pissed because he wanted to know how Pullo knew about his wife's "button".

Re: John Carter of Mars - Marvel comics had some stuff based on him years ago I think. I always thought it was sort of a Tarzan like character/situation.

I have watched the first season of Blood and Sand but I am enjoying this one slightly more so far.
