The writing in mainstream movies has really gone downhill in recent years.

I can tell u what i didn't like about tfa. it was the forced humor at certain points of the film. a few finn and poe scenes didn't need humor but jj just had to inject it with some.

I get what you are saying but it has always had that element. The difference between ANH and TFA is that the story at times was being told through the eyes of the droids. TFA just used it for comedic relief.

That forced and pointless bro-mance that totally made me hate Finn and somewhat cool on my opinion of Poe, who I loved at the beginning.

I just hope Star Wars overboard doesn't tire everyone out. I know the money is their to be made but to have a new Star Wars film out every year until at least 2020 might be a bit much even for all the diehards out there.

I'm already tired of Marvel Cinematic Universe and we haven't even got to Infinity Wars yet.

I'm already tired of DC universe and we haven't even had a Justice League yet.

It won't be pointless when you find out they are gay lovers in episode 8.

I don't think this movie is going for "fun." Don't get me wrong, it will be fun because it's Star Wars, but the tone is supposed to be dark. This is between the time a Sith Emperor throws an intergalactic coup and a movie literally subtitled "A New Hope." There is no hope for anything other than tyranny at this point, and with that being the looming black cloud growing in the background I believe this movie should be very dark and gritty.
Nothing wrong with them trying new things. I will see it regardless. But it doesn't have to be ALL gloomy. If they want us to get invested in these new characters, we have to like them first.

I don't see how a gay relationship can be any type of plot driver. These movies revolved around who is related to who. We might need to establish an intergalactic adoption agency and move on from the drop your kid off on a desert planet fad.

I'll go see this but it doesn't quite feel like a star wars movie. I agree they are going overboard with the female lead crap. It's getting rather obvious. I love Rey as a character but this one just seems forced. Hopefully the movie is better than the trailer.

Looks good. Looks like they are going with a serious tone, instead of just making a plain action flick with Star Wars stuff in it.

This should be the period after the Clone Wars, when everyone is recovering from that conflict. People should be beginning to catch on to the fact that they are now in a police state, rather than having returned to the Republic prior to Ep 1.
Going just by the films, I'm gonna guess that Alderaan plays a part in this. Funding the Rebellion, etc.

That one guy whupping up on the Stormtroopers, I wonder if that is Max Von Sydow's character from TFA, that had the map... this is a chance to fill in some blanks outside the OT.
In TFA, he refers to General Leia as "she will always be royalty to me", implying he knows her as Princess (of Alderaan).

The only thing formulaic that I can see is using a scrappy outsider that seemingly doesn't care about the bigger cause
So basically, the most cliche formula in movies. And this is just the teaser.

As has the average movie-goer's attention to good writing.
