3 is easily superior. Clubber calling Rock a punk at his own statue ceremony while telling Adrian to get with a real man, Clubber destroying Rocky while Mickey lays dying, all the while believing Rocky had won. Apollo following Rocky into a darkened gym to propose training him. Paulie being Paulie in LA. But mainly one line: "There is no tomorrow!"
Then, of course, there was Rocky - Apollo 3 at the end.
Way better than Drago and the gay speech of 4.

Take away the cool montage/training sequences and Rocky IV isn't even better than V.

This happens in sports and celebrity ALL the time, and has accelerated with the rise in social media. If anything that aspect of Rocky 3 was miles ahead of its time.

Rocky III far superior. The charity fight with a wrestler and the uniting with Apollo Creed after Mickey died was huge for an 11 year old boy.

But c'mon. Rocky I is a real film.
A great film...really A Love Story, with boxing and poor people as a backdrop. It's amazing how the Rocky franchise morphed from a down on his luck love story...continued somewhat in Part II - to massive failure...and then transformed into a purely boxing franchise starting with Part 3 and on.
But Rocky I...that's just a gem of a movie isolated on its own. In fact, the movie is so little about boxing, the original script had no fight at the end at all. The original film has Rocky showing up to an empty stadium (it was all a publicity stunt) but he gets the girl and is happy. His evolution of a boxer in the original was to get the girl...his training and semi-fame helped him open up and opened Adrian up. They come together...but there is no fight at the end. Because it was 70's Hollywood and they were into realism...unlike the counter...the 80's. Nobody would believe or could conceive a clubber could defeat someone like Mayweather...as Apollo was supposed to be at the Heavyweight level.
So the offer to fight the champ...had in the end, to be a sort of joke...but it got Rocky the girl. I mean, the entire movie is a courtship.

He took an arse whipping for sure. Side note...Weathers was born to play Apollo. I'm not convinced he wouldn't have been a good fighter in real life. I read he played pro football, which came as no surprise.
