Are y'all acting like the original Road House was peak cinema? It was barely above a 90's b movie. This was a fun movie. Not every movie has to be great. Sometimes, fun is enough.

There were a few organic fights, but who care. The movie was pretty on the nose about Dalton being a gunslinger hired to clean up the town.

It was a fun movie.

I think the deal with the original is in part that it’s “so bad it’s good”, but more so it has developed a reputation for being “cool” to like the movie.

Honestly, the remake was “ok”. It certainly lacked the charisma of the original, which made it less enjoyable.

I guess. I really liked Gylenhall's body acting in this. Not the fight scenes as much as how in every scene his left shoulder drooped just slightly because he got stabbed in the opening one. He didn't wince but he was favoring one side when he was walking home. I thought that was a good touch.

Watched this last night. CM ruined an already weak film. Just a little more effort in casting and writing and it could have been a decent movie. Hollywood sucks.

Edited to say, I don’t know if CM was the right choice or not because the director allowed a shitty character to be written.

Me neither.

He doesn't even care about stopping fights half the time. He let CM and his goons trash the place for a good several minutes before he got up off his arse.

One of the worst movies I've seen. Fast and Furious-level nonsense. I walked in the room while the final action sequence started and went full-on Mystery Science Theater roasting every second of it.

Seriously, it takes a moron to like a movie like that

The movie was fine. Not great. Fight scenes were well done. But it’s not something I’m going to go back to like the original. It’s not that Road House was peak cinema or anything, but there are just certain things that make you watch it anytime it’s on.

This remake is yet another example of Hollywood being afraid to be original. This would’ve been a fine movie if the main characters name was Steven and the bar was called The Beach Hut. There was almost nothing about it that paid any homage to the original, and it will forever be compared to it.

Finally watched this today. A lot of harsh critics in here, I thought it was a decent, mindless punch-up movie. Even Conor being a cartoon goon was entertaining. Do you all just have too much nostalgia for the first one? That was never a great movie but it has its moments. Would you have liked this one better if it repeated the gay-arse prison sex line ya'll love so much?

probably the most 80s thing in the movie.

As the English would say, "it lost the plot."

What it was trying to recreate, failed miserably.

Is the original Roadhouse ridiculous and camp? Of course. But there's an earnestness in it. You buy in. Never once got sucked into this remake. It's almost like they failed so hard at recreating cult magic, it was...as a previous poster noted...immediately Mystery Science Theater...like they were simply making a parody. This is why remakes suck because Hollywood doesn't get it anymore...they've lost the plot.

I didn't go in expecting some sort of nostalgic recreation of the original. It wasn't a parody either. I liked the tropical setting of the movie, I liked Jake and Conor, and all the bit players. The girl in the book store tells you what the movie is. It's a light-hearted, western-themed movie about an anti-hero defending the townfolk. The story has been done a million times, but because it's called Roadhouse, too many of you are pissed off about it. It's not like they were fricking up Star Wars, it's dudes punching each other.

This is basically where I stand as well. I do wish it was a little more nostalgic toward the original, but that's just a personal preference for me.

But if this movie would've been called Bouncer, it would've been better received IMO.

This movie came off as borderline comedy to me. Also how can you remake roadhouse without the throat ripping scene?

One of the only likeable things from the movie was this Easter Egg - The restaurant next door was named Double Deuce.

What the frick was this. It started out ok but then it turns into something completely different when CM was introd. Don’t get it. The character development just stopped midway and it turns into a bunch of random side plots.
