I am serious when I say this. Michael Bay could of made a better Star Wars movie than that piece of shite Rian rolled out.

I disagree with him. I'm no Star Wars super fan, but I saw the first three, and loved them all. Didn't even really have a favorite. Hated the first prequel, and haven't seen another one since.

I do want to see The Force Awakens, mainly because of how well it was received here.

Getting Hamill to legitimize their crap.

It would be one thing if Hamill actually seemed to believe what he is saying. I've seen Hamill doing interviews about his voice over work, or talking about the original trilogy, and he's always happy and joking and just seems to be having the time of his life. Hell, he seemed thrilled to death to be playing the Trickster on a CW super hero show.

From his first statements about the movie to the "new and improved" damage control stuff he's been doing since the fan backlash started he looks and sounds like he's bored out of his mind, at best, and at worst like he's thinking about when he had to take a beloved family pet to be put to sleep.

Surely some PR person connected to the studio has to realize that trotting Hamill out to defend the movie has been an epic failure. If I was Disney I'd stop the Rian Johnson "I'm right" tour and go full on Marsellus Wallace. "This never happened." Drop the attempts to defend it and move on.

The irony is that this was supposed to be the trilogy that lured the old fans back in, and largely did with TFA because it felt like an actual Star Wars movie as opposed to the convoluted CGI mess of the prequels. Unbelievable how they won back so many people with The Force Awakens only to chase them away with The Last Jedi. At least with the prequels Lucas wasn't ruining the story arcs of the core characters from the OT.

This double down on Rian is insane. Publicly, formally, and with fireworks part ways with him and you immediately generate support for the next film, at least hope. Not because the next film is already directed by someone else, but because non-fans don’t care who directs any future film and fans do. You stop the bleeding and give up nothing other than future commitments made to Rian. Maybe they are waiting until the wave of dvd sales are over to do it.

Michael Bay could have made the absolute shite out of a standalone Solo film.

Studio higher ups must be getting nervous.

Rian Johnson says Empire Strikes Back would have been criticized if it came out today
I think Rian and Disney are trying to run a misdirection here.

Yes, Empire got criticized, and yes it would get so today:
The Empire is kicking the Rebellion's arse? Say WHAT? I thought we won
Who's this little green troll- WHAT??? Dude's a badass
I thought Luke was gonna get Leia, look at Han melting her. Damn, Han is one smooth mofo
Damn, they really froze Han's arse- can't believe they did that
Luke coming to frick up Vader's world- oh shite, that didn't work!
Wait-
DADDY? WTF???

OMG, that's it? THAT'S the END? Is the next movie tomorrow, because I can't wait to see this wrap up

That's what we said about Empire, after seeing it. It changed things around, and it did so like a Mike Tyson punch to the face. We staggered back on one knee, shook it off, and processed the stunning turn of events. And waited eagerly- desperately- for 3 years to pass, so we could see how things worked out.

The Last Jedi chinged things around, but it did so like stepping under a pigeon that ate Taco Bell. And after it finished shitting on us, we're not waiting eagerly to see what happens next, we're looking back at what the frick happened to our movies. Trying to figure out if there is something hidden in TFA that makes this make more sense, because it's jumbled and falling off the rails. We don't have beloved stars in dire straits, we have old favorites being disgraced; we don't care about the current people because they're annoying and pointless.

The final battle- wondered if Luke could up his game to match Vader. And that didn't end up mattering, because although he did, turned out that he still couldn't touch the Emperor. Took Vader to beat that monster.

Now, the final battle- Rey... has already owned Kylo. Twice, actually, and got better the second time. Hard time thinking the next matchup won't be more of the same... and I guess that's ok because there's nobody Rey would need Kylo's help to overcome.

I like Mark Hamill but he’s got two thing pushing this in my opinion...

1) he’s somewhat in denial about luke’s Status.

2) Luke is dead so he is squeezing every bit of attention and interview he can while he can.

You really don't understand what is going on. Hamill despises the movie, but since he did nothing but shite talk the movie before its release, the lawyers at Disney are forcing him to go out and basically retract everything he said. Hamill completely understands that this movie is a piece of shite.

so the central narrative of Empire took place in the last 25 minutes of the movie?

Ummm, no. He was going after Han and Leia to lure Luke in. Luke was his actual target, not Han and Leia.

I would’ve loved it if everyone in TLJ just kept getting their asses handed to them by Snoke FWIW.

I would have loved Rey getting her arse kicked by Kylo in TFA. Would have actually given her some motivation to actually train for once.

if you follow the OT/Empire template, she should be defeated in TLJ.

Someone tell me why she should worry, train harder, or reach deep at this point.
Hmmm, I did make a Mike Tyson reference in an earlier post; Disney and Abrams can't be doing that with her, can they? Make everything so easy that it's a shocker when some nobody beats her?
We're too late in the story for something like that, aren't we? She's the hero, makes zero sense for her to lose in the last film.
