you probably are, I haven't watched any of S9 other than when it aired live. They may have gotten married, I just know that it ended unbelievably quick.

Yep married then divorced.

Not refuting or disagreeing with many of the main points discussed in this thread, other than to say one thing. I think people have a tendency to take this show much too seriously.
I don't even think the producers of the show were ready for people to take it as seriously as they did, considering the reaction to the finale.

The issue I always had with Robin being Ted's wife/kid's mother is he pulls absolutely zero punches about her early on.

He called her a bitch, but changed it to "Grinch" for the kids sake in the story.
It had to be the C word. I doubt she would have flipped out so much if he just called her a bitch.

My issue with the ending of the show is that it broke the character progression. Instead of creating an ending that meshed organically with the show as it had developed, the writers shoehorned in the ending they had filmed years earlier.

I googled it just now and most agree with you. Apparently it's a Dottie dropped the ball on purpose type argument for HIMYM.

This is my favorite show of all time. Started watching it in High School and it lasted me through Grad School.
Marshall is the best Chrarcter by far, but I loved Lilly (babe) and Ted (even though he was a complete typecast and very predictable).
I have seen every episode multiple times and they are so great. The first 4 seasons are the best though.
While I get the ending I think, they royally screwed up the last episode. What made the show great was how happy and likeable everyone was. I didn't want to see how everyone's life went to shite in 30 minutes. Oh well I will rewatch that shite for years and love it.

Lily also racked up a shiteload of credit card debt and then gets mad at marshall for taking a corporate job. ALSO, the count stole from Ted's boss in order to "teach" him a lesson, almost getting Ted fired. I would have loved to see her die in a wreck or something on the show.

Show should have been called, "Kids, I want to Bang Aunt Robin Some More... Hear Me Out."
if there was a one sentence summary of this show, it would definitely be that. good call.

Is hating Lily a common thing?
She is the worst character on the show and its not even close.
Of the main group. Marshall and Barney are the only reason to tune in. Robin is kind of meh. Ted is a douche. Probably the biggest douche in TV history. And Lily is just awful.

the more I watch, the more true this becomes. shes a mom like character overkill! the ep that was mentioned above where she stole Hammond's baseball to prove a point that he was just a bully was ridiculous. She's also very selfish. Art in SF, hating on Marshall's home town and family, credit card debt, wanting to move to Italy, freaking out about kids. The Big Fudge deserved so much better!

one of the greatest tv duos of all time. The Slap Bet is phenom.

Outside of the slap bet, I wouldn't consider those two a Duo at all. Barney and ted were closer friends and more so of a duo than Marshall
Marshall was always dealing with Lilly's shite, hardly able to deal with barney.

The slap bet is nothing short of fantastic and is one of the best running gags on the show.

slap bet was hilarious. Also, they may not have been a duo all that much, but the episode when barney takes marshal under his wing to try to get him over lily and he keeps taking all the girls marshal raps with is pretty hilarious.

Don't forget, she also broke people up including Ted and Robin because of her porch theory about who would be acceptable on their porch when they were old.
Lily actually was in the running for worst human being on the show even with Barney basically sexually assaulting women.

Anyone who doesn't like the ending, doesn't understand the show. It was perfect.
Maybe if the show was ended 2-3 seasons prior to when it ended, it could of been the right ending. They extended the show out too far for that ending. They had a goal and got sidetracked from it to where it just didn't work as well.
Posted on 11/1/16 at 11:32 am to Dam Guide
On the contrary, that ending was perfect only because they stretched it out that far. Their constant use of ted/robin over those last couple years came full circle, and Barney and robin divorcing is exactly what should've happened because Barney stayed true to character and fricked up a good thing (Nora) to get back with robin (who he was clearly incompatible with)
If they had ended the show a few seasons early, Ted marries Victoria and Barney marries Nora

That ending was anything but perfect. They torpedoed their characters and abandoned the entire point of the show.

This isn't like LOST, where people legitimately didn't understand what was happening.
Agreed about the HIMYM ending though.
