Watched the original a couple years ago. I remember thinking what an awful movie it was after seeing the Denzel version. Easily my favorite movie of his.

True Grit

I liked the new one, but there is a certain nostalgic quality the old one has for me since my dad and I used to watch a lot of John Wayne flicks back in the day.

You've Got Mail was a remake? That's like a 1997 movie based on email so the original couldn't have been very old. Or were they pen pals?

Yep. Remake of "The Shop Around The Corner"

Heaven Can Wait was a remake?

Yep. Warren Beatty's was a remake. Look it up.

Ha. I knew people wouldn't know that any of those I named were remakes.

People saying True Grit: Have you even seen the first one?. . .

Also, if a remake is essentially identical to the original, how can you say it's better?

The original The Girl with the Dragon Tatto was better.
I disagree.

Additionally, Mara basically copied evrything Rapace did in the original. It always kind of aggravated me the hype she got for it because she didn't bring anything to the role Rapace didn't already lay out for her.
That is true. I've thought the same thing.

I haven't read the thread yet, and I may catch shite for this, but I thought the remake of TCM a few years back with Jessica Biel was really fricking awesome and well done. I've only seen bits and pieces of the original, but it doesn't seem to hold up too well (I know in its time it was pretty terrifying).

True Grit. . . subtle humor of the Coen brothers. I often times found myself the only one in the theater laughing
Same. I watched it at the theater with my family, and they looked over at me a couple times when I was cracking up (and everyone else was quiet).

The remake is good. It's just too similar to the original for me to say it's better.

The subtle humor is what pushed it ahead of the original for me, though I love both versions.

I am not sure how people feel about Holiday Classics

However I do like the Live Action Grinch over the old Anime

The Mummy 1999

If they were pen pals they would know each other's address. So it would really mess up the story.

Good point

sorcerer was a good remake of 'wages of fear' although i know the original is considered the better film.

maybe i just dug the tangerine dream soundtrack and suspension bridge

both are good movies to watch if you haven't seen them
