Rear Window is a great movie; Where does it rank in the Hitchcock filmography?

BBC America is playing Hitchcock all day and finally caught Rear Window.

Great film and very unique. It was awesome how the film unfolded peering through all of the windows of the apartment building. Also Grace Kelly feeling frisky the whole time .

This might be my favorite Hitchcock film now that I have seen it.

Where do you rank this one in the Hitchcock catalogue?

1.Dial M For Murder
2.North by Northwest
3.Strangers on a Train

Thats my top three, with Vertigo and Rear Window right behind. Still never watched Notorious and The Birds.

Rope and Saboteur should be near the top of any Hitchcock list.

Norman Lloyd, who played the Nazi spy in Saboteur, is still around, and still acting. Has to be one of the longest careers in Hollywood.

Vertigo is by far my favorite Hitchcock movie(and it deserves all the goat rankings it receives) but I've always felt psycho was vastly overrated. Rear window is definitely better than psycho.

Probably 4th or 5th for me but it seems to be a favorite for many. Strangers on a Train is my favorite, just my preference.

According to this Best 1,000 Movies of All Time ranking, it is 3rd, behind Vertigo and Psycho.

I wanted to like it, but didn't. Maybe I should watch it again.

Rear is definitely better than Psycho. I believe Psycho to be pretty overrated.

Haven't seen Vertigo in a while, recording now to watch tonight. Vertigo is incredible though. Probably his best movie.

I disagree. How can arguably the most influential horror film ever made be overrated? I agree with Ebert's assessment that if Hitchcock would have left out that closing scene of the psychiatrist explaining Norman's behavior, the movie would be perfect.

"If I were bold enough to reedit Hitchcock's film, I would include only the doctor's first explanation of Norman's dual personality: 'Norman Bates no longer exists. He only half existed to begin with. And now, the other half has taken over, probably for all time.' Then I would cut out everything else the psychiatrist says, and cut to the shots of Norman wrapped in the blanket while his mother's voice speaks" - Ebert

Grace Kelly helps Rear Window in the rewatch factor.

I think even Jimmy agreed

Nothing like waking up to Grace Kelly

This was a modern circa 2000 re-release poster for the movie...

Top tier. I wouldn't argue with anyone who has it as their #1, even though it's probably my #4 behind Vertigo, North by Northwest, and Notorious.
