I blame the writers, not Moore. When Moore was actually handed a serious movie to work with, he did well. See For Your Eyes Only, for example. He wasn't the one casting Grace Jones or Herve Villachaize.

You have to give Moore some of the blame. I've heard him many times in interviews talking about how he agreed that he should play the Bond w/a much lighter tone.

Skyfall isn't a Bond movie in my opinion. It's way too serious and introspective. It's a melodrama instead of a fun action movie like Bond is supposed to be.

Craig's Bond in general - the gritty, depressed Bond - isn't really one I care for, but I liked Casino Royale. I feel that the Craig Bond arc is just trying too hard to counter or capture the popularity of the Bourne brand.

For me #1 is Golden Eye and #2 is From Russia With Love, followed by Dr. No, then Goldfinger, then Casino Royale.

Craig's Bond is much more in tune w/the books the movies are based off of.

I get that... notice I said, "not a Bond movie". Couldn't care less about the books.

Craig's Bond is not in tune with what Bond in the movies has traditionally been like. I liked what Bond movies used to be: pure escapism. I don't want to pay money or spend time watching Daniel Craig mope about all "oh woe is me, I'm so conflicted and deep."

I maintain my position that the change in feel with Craig is about trying to counter or capture the popularity of Bourne. I doubt very seriously that the real motivation was to be truer to the books.

1. Thunderball
2. Gold finger
3. Casino Royale

Top 3 by far imo. 1 and 2 very close.

I don't normally say this but your opinion sucks.

Unless this is a troll, if that, well done.

I like my Bond to have some charm.

Connery, Moore, Brosnan, Niven...

Not so much Craig, Dalton, Lazenby.

For my money, From Russia With Love was the perfect bond film. A few practical gadgets, a serious villain and a practical storyline for a spy to try to recover a piece of siphering technology during the cold war. Connery was perfect in this film.

That's a solid list. The first Bond movies I saw were Roger Moore one's but I've always preferred the Connery one's. Craig is my 2nd favorite bond. I know QOS got a lot of hate, but I liked it. I'm really looking forward to Spectre.

Skyfall was my favorite, but I'm not that big of a Bond fan.

Have an upvote.

From Russia With Love had a plot you could understand and follow, a villain with a rational motivation, it wasn't zany like Moore and didn't have Three Stooges type humor, there were no invisible cars like later Brosnan, and Connery played it reasonably straight without troubling the audience with his "dark secret pained inner self" or any of the Craig-type nonsense.

Charm is different from "whimsy."

This. It is a Tier 1 Bond film, and a definite player for Best.

List sucks. Quantum is far worse than that and YOLT is ranked way too low.

I can remember when the first Roger Moore Bond movie came out. Siskel just savaged Roger Moore and I've always had the same opinion.

1983 Siskel and Ebert

Roger Moore sucks in 90% of his bond movies (he has a couple of good ones however) and the idea that Bond should be "whimsical," is ludicrous.
