Quidditch has long been a sore point for anyone who understands sports. The snitch is worth far too much. It renders the rest of the game pointless, and also it shows a completely failure of tactical awareness.
Let's assume you're a quidditch coach, why on earth would you commit 6 players to scoring goals and only one to the snitch? That's insane. I'd drop my goalie back with two chasers to cover the rings, and just toss the ball around as a timekill. My other chaser would be a second seeker, and I'd have both of my beaters protecting my seekers and attacking theirs.
It's a total misallocation of your resources on the roster. Why even try to score goals? I'd be going full Dean Smith four corners.
The snitch being worth 25 points would give it increased value while also not rendering the rest of the game pointless. It would also add to the strategy of sometimes not catching the snitch if your team was down. Three goals is a big margin, but not insurmountable.
This really bothers me.

b/c its a rule that you only get one seeker?
is it that hard to get?

You really want to get pissed off with it. Read that history of Quidditch book she put out in the package of textbooks and such.
Quidditch didn't have the snitch at first. Some rich dude showed up with a small fast bird and told the players that whoever caught it would get 150 of some form of money can't remember which, probably galleons. So they all chased the bird. They ended up killing a ton of these little yellow birds over the years to the point of extinction until someone magicked up an artificial replacement.

You could still have them scout it out. They don't need to be the one to catch it, but I don't think there's a rule in any sport that someone can't at least look for the ball.

quidditch scoring and the whole game is kinda dumb, agreed on that.
however, i dont remember if this is explicitly stated or just implied, but it was always pretty clear to me that the players were assigned roles and had to stick to them. like an eligible receiver type of thing.

sure you could have a guy scouting but he'd get cracked in the skull by a bludger for his efforts.

I think this is true, but still, no reason you can't have someone be a "Beater" but really just go around looking for the Snitch and calling to the Seeker to come catch it.
Also, if I were a coach my Beaters (if they weren't looking for the Snitch) would just follow around the other teams Seeker and harass him the entire time, screw guarding the Chasers

It makes it almost certain that whoever gets the snitch will win the game.
I was actually thinking the exact same thing the other day.
Makes the rest of the game almost pointless.

I'm not pissed. It's just a horribly designed sport. What's to stop someone else from catching the snitch and giving it to their team's seeker? Or if only person is allowed to go after the snitch, I'd still use my third chaser to constantly harass their seeker. It's too valuable to only commit one player to.
The point value assigned to the snitch means the object of the game is to catch the snitch while not getting outscored by 15 goals. Teams should play accordingly.

Another issue with the snitch is that it isn't variable difficulty. That's what makes sports, that little league is easier than mlb and therefore scores of little league games are similar.
The snitch is the snitch no matter how bad the teams/seekers are. It is not out of the realm of possibility that it would be impossible to end a game because the snitch would never be caught.

Bulgaria catches the snitch in the Quidditch World Cup and still loses so....... I don't see the point of your rant
Why would you do this? That is fricking stupid. Catching the snitch while your team is down to the point of losing if you catch it is about as idiotic as shooting at your own goal. And in the World Cup no less. No one would do that. Makes no sense.

Totally agree. Women have no concept of sport. The snitch element renders the rest of the game pointless.
Posted on 9/2/14 at 1:20 pm to UL-SabanRival
So you have 6 (I think) players just trying to keep the game within 150 points... and one trying to win it.
Makes good sense.

read the thread and you'll see the answer to your question brah.

Also, it was made out that the snitch was some extremely difficult ball to catch and was the hardest thing in sports, yet Harry catches or sees the Snitch several times by accident

also, catching the snitch isn't the only way to end the game.
it can also end by mutual decision of the two team captains.
so if you are getting your arse kicked that bad and have no shot at getting or catching up via the snitch, you can concede the match.

thats b/c Harry is supposed to be a Quiddich phenom. He was the youngest kid to play seeker in a century at Hogwarts and even Krum, widely considered the best in the world at the position, was extremely impressed by the broom skills he displayed in the Tri Wizard Tournament.
