But my question is about Ash. It's obviously revealed that he is an android, sent by "the company" to ensure the alien makes it back to earth. Question: if the company had the ability to make androids of that quality, why involve humans in space exploration at all?
its never revealed by the film but androids the quality of Ash may be prohibitively expensive. And I think they say only 1 synthetic per mission.

efinitely watch Aliens certainly one of the top a sci-fi movies of all time. James Cameron did a great job taking off where Ridley Scott left off with Alien.
On the recs of this thread, I watched Aliens. It was definitely worth it...and surprisingly high production quality for 1986.
Was the momma alien somewhat blind?
You got to see aliens a lot more, but Cameron still did a good job of not showing you too much. My favorite was when they set up those robot guns in the corridors and then waited. For the longest time, Cameron only showed you the view looking at the firing gun, leading you to assume that maybe there were no aliens after all. And then finally, nope - massive holocaust of aliens running into those guns.
I did think the tired trope at the very end of the bay being opened to deep space and resulting in heavy winds but not instant, lethal decompression was beneath Cameron.
Alien 3...here I come!

And another smaller question: when the alien was able to make it onto the escape shuttle, it appeared to be sort of incapacitated and/or wedged into a tight spot. What actually happened there?
This has been debated. There are people who think the alien was in the process of dying, or it was going into some sort of hibernation.

Skip Alien 3, its boring.
While not as good as the first two, Alien 3 is criminally underrated

Alien Resurrection gets a lot of hate too but I love it.
Alien Resurrection is god awful

I'm on the team. I LOVE Aliens3. It is a gloriously dark and weird film. The reason it is such a turn off for most people is because it is utterly hopeless from start to finish. It kills off every survivor from Aliens save Ripley in the opening sequence, as the credits roll. And then it places you in an environment in which it is absolutely clear that every single character on the screen is going to die. I mean, that is ballsy as hell. There's no point in the film at which you think Ripley and the gang are going to "win". There are just degrees of losing.
I know Fincher hated how little budget he got for the film, but honestly, I think it works in his favor. The lack of resources made it a better, more spartan film. The film is supposed to be spartan.

This is a major issue for me (aside from the alien egg on the Sulaco that has no logical explanation). I would have had Hicks and Newt survive initially at least. If Hicks dies during the film, fine, but I just thought it was a lazy way to kill him and Newt off.

100% agree, the only major franchise I can think of that took such a bold step.

I think Hicks and Newt were in original drafts, but Biehen either pulled out or was unavailable. And I don't think the Newt actress was ever in another film.
I remember when 3 came out the fact that they were killed off in such a way ruffled a lot of feathers.

I'm in the minority's, but Aliens is a bit overrated. And that's not to say it's not great, because it is. But I'd rank it third in the original trilogy...but I'm also in the minority in that I think Alien 3 is VASTLY underrated.

Definitely go watch it. Alien and Aliens are two to great movies!! Alien 3 was good not great. Resurrection is worth a watch but really is pretty shitty. The rest dont bother with.

Let me put it this way...if I were to list the best action movies ever created, it would be as follows:
1) Mad Max Fury Road
2) Aliens
3) Everything else, which are not even in the same universe as the two movies mentioned above.

I just watched both for the first time in the past 2 weeks. Mad Max can't even aspire to holding the used-and-now-discarded jock of Aliens.

I think all the aliens are blind.
At least the original one in the book was.
