Prometheus (spoilers)

It was second on my list of anticipated movies last summer and I cooled on it after the word hit the street enough to wait and just now got around to seeing it on HBOGO.
I don't know how many movies I've ever seen that set things up so brilliantly just to have it all fall apart. Mind numbingly good through the first half or so to the point that I was kicking myself in the arse for waiting.
Then, I understood the criticism.
IMHO, the moment it went from what could have been a generationally influential movie like Alien to just a good watch was when the old man showed up. It happened right after the female protagonist had that insanely well done and intense scene in the surgical pod.
When the old guy reveal occurred, the sense of seeing Fonzi going through the air on his skis was palpable. That's when I figured out why the buzz was not great when it finally came out after being so highly anticipated.
Completely unsatisfying ending that seemed to feed right into a sequel though a sequel wasn't a foregone conclusion when the movie went into the can. That was bullshite. They could have cut out a lot of the second half and actually had her reach the destination.
Prometheus was like a kid going to MIT for two years and when you get excited he drops out and finishes up at a JUCO.

I actually watched it for the first time today since seeing it in the theater and was bored about an hour into it. I agree, it has a great buildup but then goes nowhere. I also can't stand the husband scientist dude, his character is such a tool

So what are you trying to say...nothing wrong with that...

I thought the ending was pretty badass. Leonard Shelby as an old man didn't bother me much either.

the surgical pod scene kind of gave it away that the old man was there. a male only surgical pod? it's not like David was going to use it

Yeah, even though it makes no attempt to determine gender outside of the operation specification.

well since outside of the reproductive system, the surgeries will be the exact same, it really didn't matter

It was for the old man.

Also, how is it a good idea to go see the people who wanted to extinct your planet? Like showing up & saying hey, you need to try again.
It would have made sense to go to their planet to bomb their arse.

Did they know that was the alien species' intent before they got there? I thought they hadn't figured that out until the end.
I thought the movie was ok. Will watch if its on, but there are some weird segments where I kind of just lose focus on the movie because it gets boring.

They definitely didn't know the engineers set out to destroy them. I think David had it figured out after he spiked the drink and saw what happened, but he graciously chose to not inform anyone else or his advise was ignored.

I wondered why he spiked it.
When Shaw became pregnant, and he wanted to put her back in the freezer for the flight home, it reminded me of Aliens and the intent was to bring back an Alien for military study.

I actually liked the movie, but no doubt it wasn't what a lot of people wanted. There was certainly some weak stuff and sort of, but not really tying it in to Alien was aggravating. I thought it was shot beautifully and there was some great acting.

I just saw Drive. I think it was slow. How does the M/TV Board feel?
