Are we to assume prince Charles died in the battle?
No...the battle of Culloden is real history. He doesn't die in that battle.
However...you have to think that his role in the books/show is over.

I watch this show but I have not read the books.
My wife has read them and she informed me that Frank is represented better in the show than he was in the books. Mainly dealing around how in the show it alluded to an open marriage agreement but for the books that was not the case.
So the show does seem to paint Claire more in a negative light from that perspective IMO, makes me less sympathetic to her situation versus someone who has read the books. I get you are separated from the person you love, but all the show did was allude to the fact that Frank tried to reconnect multiple times and was rebuffed then given green light to sleep with co-eds.

Yeah I don’t remember them discussing in the books that Claire turned Frank away. Iirc it was more implied it was just a mutual thing...that they naturally drifted apart in their marriage. There is no mention of her giving him the ok to have affairs. She mainly mentions that she is aware that he likely has but as long as he was discreet she didn’t care.

What did u think of Frank's death?
Tobias Menzies is one of my favorite, underrated actors.
I love Claire, but damn she comes off as an ungrateful bitch sometimes. Especially in railing against Frank over the suggestion of taking Brianna to England and that she's a damn hypocrite when giving him shite over his mistress. I haven't read the books, but the show has definitely played him up as a sympathetic character. I think Menzies performance plays into that too. I was incredibly sad to see him die before he could really set out for his own happiness.
