My takeaways...after finally seeing it last night.

Nolan went a bit too crazy with the sound. It was almost like "This is Spinal Tap" where he was showing that his volume went to 11.

Some of the details of things we know, that he had going on in the background, were awesome. Richard Feynman refusing to use the welder's glass...relying on the windshield to block the UV (it didn't show that he was seeing purple spots for 3 days afterwards)...then later showing Feynman playing the bongos...which he was known to do (obviously, my favorite Physicist).

I watched the movie with 8 PhD Physicists...so they were giggling in places where the rest of the audience wasn't as much...because they knew the details of how some of the things would play out. It's attention to those details that made this movie special to me.

Overall, it was well cast and presented. I really liked it, and it didn't seem like 3 hours to me at all.

Side note...My father worked on the Calutrons on the 1960s...so seeing Lawrence's early model was special to me. Also loved the Chicago Pile visit.

I saw it yesterday, I had the entire theater to myself. I was a good movie, the 3 hours went by quick. I was not familiar with Oppenheimer's history, that guy Strauss was a bastard but he got his in the end.

I've been meaning to want to watch this in theaters a 2nd time but been busy to do so, but hopefully if it's still in theaters next week I'll check it out.

Cillian Murphy and RDJ stole the show.

I just rewatched this movie after reading American Prometheus, and I'm honestly shocked at how accurate this was. While it was no doubt a herculean achievement to make this subject matter into a compelling movie, Nolan didn't actually need to dramatize very much. Direct quotes made up a pretty significant portion of the dialogue.

I couldn't help but think about the Imitation Game when I watched this. While I really like that movie, it took a lot of liberties with the history. This movie didn't have that problem.

Huh, now that I think about it - those two movies are almost pretty exact of one another.

Granted I haven’t watched the Imitation Game in a while but you had me thinking about the parallels in both movies

Think it has a chance to upset Oppenheimer?

If history is any indicator, Scorsese wins. Nolan loses.

Personally? No. But who knows with Oscar voters.

These are the current odds for Best Picture:
Oppenheimer -125
Killers of the Flower Moon +200
Poor Things +650
American Fiction +650
The Holdovers +1000

I feel like Killers of the Flower Moon has the best chance to unseat Oppenheimer. A lot of people think Barbie is a serious contender but I disagree. It's the kind of movie that will receive nominations but few if any wins.

Lily Gladstone has Actress sewn up, Robert Downey Jr. will win for Supporting Actor, and Nolan is a lock for Director. I think the only awards Barbie has a chance to win are in the Song and Production Design categories.

Bumping this thread as I just got to watch. Looking to see if there has been anymore re-watches and anymore revelations before watch again.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie in all aspects. Really well done.
