Did they think they were gonna surprise us with Sasha dying?
They pretty obviously didn't.

Didn't they mention a back entrance or tunnel that Sasha or someone had created an episode or 2 ago?
That was at Hilltop.

The most ridiculous part of that episode was that suppressed uzi with a rifle scope that Negan was firing.

Doesn't matter the source material. Bad writing is bad writing.
Swamp thing was a comic book too, actually great writing in the book..underwhelming tv show.

Agreed, just because it's based on a comic or is about a fictional thing (zombie apocalypse) doesn't mean it has carte blanche to do whatever it wants and is immune to criticism.
I thought the episode was decent overall, despite many, many terribly stupid things...most notably the firefights with automatic weapons from literally 20 feet away and nobody really dying much, or the fact that Negan was driving off flipping the bird and it seemed like nobody could even hit the fricking truck.
I will say that this would've been a great episode if it were last week's and not the finale. But it ended on enough of a note to keep me for next season.
I didn't see the GPKs turning on Rick and company though. That was weird, and I don't fully understand it either, because now we are back in the same position as before basically (Rick and allies wanting to take out Negan), but Negan knowing what's up and still vastly having the numbers advantage.
Also, it really doesn't make sense that Negan doesn't bash Rick's skull in when he threatens him again. At all. I get why they can't kill Rick off like that, but he's already said his peace about killing Negan. Seeing it again makes it feel cheap.
And as usual, I assume I was the only person talking to my TV hoping that Lucille was gonna take Carl out for a spin.

Then I remembered it was auburn and since he is who he is, they've probably already given him his diploma.

I don't understand this. Just because there is a zombie apocalypse, it doesn't mean tigers can suddenly sniff out bad guys. The writers don't get a pass to produce shoddy writing just because the show is fictional.
And I'm the one in these threads bitching about the bitching. But your line of thinking doesn't make any sense.
Consider a show like Stranger Things. We all know it isn't based in reality. But the writing outside of the main plot of there being this monster is realistic. TWD has actually done a godo job of doing this exact thing in the past. In the early seasons it was kinda like "yea, if there were a zombie apocalypse, I could see things playing out like this."

I agree the hokey gun fights get old. There could be better fights without 3000 rounds fired and 6 people killed. This was actually better than it could have been.
That was paying homage to John Carpenter and is the same gun used by Snake Plisskin in Escape from New York.

What really bothered me here was both Carl and Rick just accepting the head bashing. Let's start with Carl. I know Negan said he's going to try do it in one shot, but that's likely not going to happen. You might as well go out trying to gouge some dude's eyes out. There is no incentive to sit there and take it like Abraham. Abraham took one for the team. Carl didn't have that motivation. Also, how the hell does Carl even get captured. You know what Negan does when you fight his people. You might as well keep fighting until they kill you. Surrendering will likely be worse.
On to Rick. Yeah, his line showed us that pussy Rick is gone, but it still made no sense. Carl is the only blood he has left (he admitted he doesn't think the baby is his). The speech came off as him saying, "Yeah, you can kill my son as long as I get to kill you."
One last thing. Was anyone else surprised when Sasha came out as a zombie? It had been so long since zombies held any significance in the show, that I was just thinking she'd be simply dead. The group would then pretend Sasha means anything to them and would start to fight. When she came out all white eyed, I thought, "Oh yeah, I forgot zombies existed in this show and that's what happens when people die".

As someone else pointed out, what else was he gonna do? It's not like he had any options to prevent said killing of Coral. He didn't know reinforcements were coming. All he knew was that he was fricked.

Anything else to try to save his son. Rick thinks Michonne just felt to her death and his son is about to have his head bashed to a pulp. He doesn't really have a lot to live for. Try anything to stop that. Negan looks like he weighs 150 pounds. Bum rush him and try to take the bat from his hands. Negan was damn close to Rick during that scene. He's not getting a full force swing on Rick if Rick springs at him. Chances are you surprise him, and maybe you get lucky with one of the saviors accidentally killing Negan when they try to stop him.
Having said all that, Rick did just get shot and fell 30 feet. Still, though, I would think he should try something there.

It's a comic book so...

He's surrounded by like 20 people pointing guns at them. He lunges or anything and most likely he and coral are shot dead.

The actor that plays Ezekial actually (humorously) answered that question on his twitter.. Sorry not good at links and don't have twitter..
But he said that Ezekial draws pictures of bad guys and trains Shiva by showing them to her like flash cards.... obviously..
I bet he had a laser pointer!

For all he knew, if he didn't do anything, his son gets killed and he gets permanently maimed. He might as well be dead. So, what's the difference? Doing nothing has a 99% bad ending. Leave 1% for a tiger showing up out of nowhere to save the day. Lunging at least gives you a small chance that something favorable happens. The worst case scenario is you get shot dead. I'd rather be shot dead than be brutally murdered with a barbed wire baseball bat.

Well in his mind, if Negan murders Coral and chops off his hands, he's still gonna find a way to get revenge, since ya know, he's still alive. In your scenario, him and coral are both dead. Now what?

I like the Tiger idea much better. You know with the whole tv entertainment thing going on here.
