I can't believe the giant arse pass some of you are giving this with how awful the previews look. This flick is looks like the perfect example of everything this board loathes.

We recognize it's gonna be bad, but it's gonna be the "so bad it's good" kinda bad.

I don't even think that. I think it'll be a decent movie

It looks just as mediocre and boring as the Transformers and recent Turtles movies to me.

Yes I really haven't read anything bad yet so far except from the movie snobs on this board who think La La Land is some national fricking treasure. Frick you! Power Rangers 4 Life.

If I was a betting man, I would say Green Ranger. Rita will pass on the power to him & he'll be a villain for the majority of the movie, then convert to the rangers side. Third movie they'll probably face off against Lord Zedd. Tommy will lose the Green Ranger powers, then gain the White Ranger powers and come in at the movie's climax to save the day and defeat Zedd.

Hollywood you can go ahead and send me a check

I'm really liking what I'm hearing from this movie. The responses have been very good, but I'm still reserving judgement. It would'nt be the first time I've seen good early reactions from what ended up being an incredebly disappointing movie.

Never forget:

THR Review (spoilers)

quote:

Screenwriter John Gatins succeeds in effectively distilling the Power Rangers’ sprawling mythology into a manageable scope and dialing back the campy humor and martial arts fixations that characterized the TV series and liberally informed the feature films. The current version instead emphasizes more realistic dramatic situations by imbuing each Ranger with some type of personal issue.

Whether they’re dealing with bullying, alienation or peer pressure, these teens are more three-dimensional than their Ranger predecessors, but eventually this repetitive effort to emphasize their relatability becomes so heavy-handed as to appear transparently manipulative. However, some judiciously timed humor, frequently aimed at Billy’s tech obsessions or Zordon’s sarcastically judgmental attitude toward his young proteges, helps curtail the self-consciously jokey tone of the earlier films.

Standing out in a field of largely emerging young talent, Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) strikes a heartfelt balance between Billy’s obsessive and creative tendencies, playing them against one another for both humor and emotional impact. Cranston as the pompous alien with unrealistic expectations and Hader as the ever-optimistic robot form a resourceful if unexpected comedic team, but can’t quite match Banks for Rita’s sheer campiness, even if she appears practically unrecognizable under layers of makeup and prosthetics.

Israelite, building on his experience with teen sci-fi feature Project Almanac, orchestrates a vastly more complex array of characters, action set pieces and technical resources for a combined effect that maintains dramatic tension even while teetering on the brink of excess. CGI characters and special effects sequences by Weta Workshop are seamlessly integrated and consistently thrilling.

I will never forget watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie at the cinema. It was 1995, I was fourteen years old, and I really didn’t want to be there. I had never been a proper fan of the early ’90s TV series that spawned that movie, what with its creepy nightmare face costumes, no-budget rubber monsters and characters cheesy enough to give you lactose intolerance. Not to mention the fact that nobody seemed physically capable of talking without rapidly punching the air in sync with every syllable. I found it all embarrassingly silly. But my nine year old cousin utterly adored the show, so I was forced against my will, through gritted teeth and balled fists, to chaperone him at the movies.

Walking into that cinema, I expected it to be filled with kids the same age and disposition as my cousin, and that was indeed the case. But as the (terrible) movie ended and we were walking out, I saw that sitting two rows behind our allotted seats was a girl my age who I knew from our church. As I walked by we made fleeting eye contact… the look we instantly gave each other, before rapidly trying to just get the hell out, was crystal clear: We would never speak of this to anyone for fear of premature death by embarrassment.

Fast forward twenty two years and once again I’m walking out of the cinema after watching a Power Rangers movie. Except this time, all I want to do, with every hyped up cell in my body, is tell everybody about this movie. Roar about it from the rafters, bellow from the balconies. Because what I had just witnessed in all my slack-jawed shock, may very well have been the biggest cinematic surprise of 2017. Power Rangers was actually good!

quote:

It may have its flaws – and I’m sure that hardcore fans may find more than I did – but given its dated source material, Power Ranger is just way better than it really has any right to be in so many different ways. There’s really nothing else I can say, except “Go, go watch Power Rangers!”.
