I watched all four last night, and they were great. But I'm out of work today cuz my back is fricked up. So I'll post my comments tomorrow morning at work hopefully.

I forgot all about the end of S4, and was caught a little off guard by it. But I really liked the episodes.

Watched the first one.

Not much to say other than......

"Theses aren't the droids you're looking for."

I know some people didn't like season 5, but I love how batshit crazy things get. '

Brother!

Forget Desmond left Penny for Etta.

Letters of Transit

Scrolling text intro. Hmmm...that's different.

We finally get to ole crazy eyes, Etta. I remember I made these pics back when the show was airing:

Observers have some jungle fever, huh?

Good old Windmark. I remember dude being a total badass.

MUTHAfrickING DESMOND!!!!!!!! I forgot all about him being on the show. I just got legit excited sitting on my couch.

I guess "another life" means the Fringe world.

Etta does look banging in those jeans though, I'll give her that much. Just like her mom.

"These aren't the droids you're looking for.." And then he just ganks the candy as they walk by. Walter is so fricking awesome.

I love how easy it is to simply give Walter his memories back.

Episode felt like it flew by...not much happened specifically, but we got lots of setup. I liked it.

Worlds Apart

So now the theory is that DRJ is combining the two universes to create "his own universe" that is basically under his control and that he rules over? How the frick would that work? I am completely confused by that...if both worlds are destroyed, how the hell is there still one left?

So every one of these DRJ people are running late? You'd think something as important as this (setting off earthquakes at the exact same moment around the globe) would make people want to get there ten minutes early or some such shite. But nope, every single one of them is cutting it this close and barely making it to their marks with mere seconds to spare.

So Liv is connecting with this dude and using him to find his doppleganger. I have no idea how this is working...like from what perspective is she actually seeing this dude? Is it like she's watching him on TV? Because she seems to be able to not only see him, but where he is and things that are going on around him, even if he isn't looking at them (so it's not like she's seeing things through his eyes). Weird. But still cool though.

If I am Link, I seriously consider staying in the altverse and getting some Fauxliv love (Fauxlove?).

Why don't they just bring this dude to the other side to show him, or bring any of their own dopples there to prove to him that there are multiple universes. That would be so much easier than trying to simply convince him to help them out and not kill billions of people.

Good to see Peter is back to raids with no guns. Reminds me of the South Park episode where the agents are using their walkie talkies as weapons.

So his feelings really ARE contagious. Nice.

I always wanted the two Livs to fight...and now I am wanting them to make out.

Brave New World 1

Did something like Apple Pay exist back when this aired (early 2012)? Or did Fringe call that?

Airborne toxins, yet people are standing RIGHT THERE. I bet Myth is going mad..

I remember this redhead chick being relatively important..

William Bell, WTF?

Using the sun for Independence Day lasers. Nice.

DRJ chilling in the car watcing Liv and Peter...one step ahead as always.

Liv playing Reel Steel with Peter is sort of weird. I get it, and that her cortexiphan is allowing her to do all sorts of shite, but it's still weird.

What caused DRJ to combust like that? Seems like he's been through WAY worse things than whatever the hell just happened to him (did he tough the radar/antenna and he wasn't supposed to?).

I realize it's TV, but the fact that Astrid and Walter were even able to start getting away in that warehouse is a joke. They were surrounded by at least 3 dudes with automatic weapons aimed on them, and Astro kicks one and they run for it and get shot at in narrow alleys by machine guns and nothing happens? Come on, man.

And now Astrid gets shot? Wow, I don't remember that at all.

Solid episode.

Brave New World 2

So now it's Bell that wants this new world with flying dragons and shite?

Astrid sure is recovering nicely considering she got shot through her chest several hours ago.

The redhead...I thought I remembered her being improtant. And this bitch is about to shoot the frick out of Olivia.......

Whew. But HOLY shite, Liv. Sweet Matrix ricochet moves.

Question: Are we still in a world where Nina adopted Liv when she was little?

Well, that was almost sort of answered...so my assumption is that yes we are..??

So per Bell, it was Walter's idea to start this new world, but now he's taken over and is trying to play God? This whole angle, which cool, is weird as frick to me.

This whole scene questioning Jessica after she's dead is trippy, and is weirding me out a little bit.

I still don't get Bell's motive AT ALL. Not even a little bit.

Is Liv gonna kill herself? HAHAA....nope. Walter gonna take care of that himself. Wow.

And then Bell just peaces out like NBD.

Walter saving Liv using the cortex in her system just like the lemon cake is a pretty cool twist. For whatever reason, I don't remember much of this.

I was about to say, is Liv a god now, but we get a throwaway line about how she's back to normal now. Makes sense.

And of course, she's gonna be pregnant now. Would've been awesome if she had told Peter and he was like "Is it mine?"

Ole September can't just let people live and be happy for five goddamn minutes.

All in all, I didn't understand much of the motives of DRJ and Bell, but still really enjoyed these last 4 episodes of S4. Can't wait for the insanity that is S5.

About to go update the OP (we are off this week for S4 discussion). Now ya'll need to catch up, and still need to discuss last week's episodes as well as this week's.

they explained it I think, the episode where they took shelter in the bike shop and that was the only thing that survived. The idea is that they find the epicenter and repopulate the earth with their own after the world's merge.

I have to go back and watch but it looked lower than the chest, and that isn't so far fetched.

I don't think feel wanted to kill astro, as she was Walter's friend.

He thinks Humans are evil and he wants to create a more perfect world. Ultimate scientist dream or something.

that was one of the things I remember from my first watch, pretty awesome twist. Bell's reaction is like the Goblin King in the Hobbit. "that will do it"

My comments to come soon.

I know their explanation of it. I just don't think it made much sense.
quote:

I thought he knew.

Maybe so. But it seemed like he just was basically recruited by DRJ as a disciple of sorts, and was blind to what was really going on (about there being mupltiple universes and whatnot). If he knew what was going on, and knew that what he was doing would kill two universes, then Liv pleading with him telling him how many lives were at stake would be pretty useless since he'd already know that (and that's ultimately what swayed him to help the Fringe team out).
quote:

some of them had hazmat suits on

Right, but Liv and company about 50 feet away didn't, and if they didn't even know if it was airborne or not at that point, that is pretty fricking close to be standing to a potentailly fatal airborne pathogen that makes you burn from the inside out.

But at least we got a throwaway line about it not being airborne.
quote:

That's pretty funny.
quote:

I guess. But it just seems weird that he'd go through all the trouble of literally destroying everything and everyone he's ever known to exist, only to "start over" with a new world of creatures. I dunno, it just seems a little overboard, even for someone like William Bell.

Exciting taste of what season 5 is going to be like. I like the set up for the future to start the episode. I remember season 5 being amazing so I'm excited.

BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't remember how this mind reading thing is prevented. Also what about the observers ability to know the possible futures, How could they do all of this without being caught?

I loved how they destroyed that building. PAY BACK

NOOOOOOO you had to amber off Desmond I mean Simon.

Worlds Apart

This is just a huge set up episode for the two part finale. But there is still enough to keep it interesting.

Anyone know what the timing was for? Why did they have to do everything at the same time?

I'm kinda drawing a blank on this episode Not much to say.

Brave new world 1/2

HAZMAT SUITS!!!!!!!! even though half of them are wearing it half aren't.

Strange that moving is the thing that kills them. Is this like a speed thing where if your heart rate goes above a certain rate you die? Not sure how this would work this way. Why would standing still keep it from happening.

Also do they ever explain why DRJ (or bell) did this? I mean what is the point of killing all these people if you only cared about merging the two universes? Seems like a waste of time if your goal is simply to upset the universe.

I like how Olive is being activated. (hmm maybe that is why DRJ did it)

Olivia is a corexiphan super hero right now, and as the episode goes on she only gets more kick arse.

Walter always does things so strangely. Let me sniff this log book and see if I can smell bell.

another thing why would only bells DNA be there? aren't there hundreds of people handling a log book?

I find it interesting bell talked about the bishop in chess and how the bishop had to be sacrificed. But apparent bishop isn't the one that he sacrifices and it is DRJ.

So is the whole sun thing about activating Olive? What an evil way to activate Olivia, but they are killing off some 14 billion people so who really cares. They will die anyway.

I'm surprised Peter didn't eat the lemon cake, he always seems to eat Walter's experiments.

jumping forward a-little bit. I guess the TV show just trusted us to believe that peter saw it, because it looked like Olivia and Peter just jumped into open ocean.

Jumping back and forth must have made Bell crazy or something, because what he wants seems a-little crazy. It is Walter the actual crazy one who is trying to talk sense into bell.

I remembered the whole head shot Olivia thing. It was pretty clever.

Great batch of episodes I'm excited for season 5.

I'm glad we have next week off, I'm on a retreat all week so I can't watch but I'll be ready to discuss by the time we start season 5.

This concept you just need to SUSPEND disbelief.

With mind reading abilities and time travel, there simply is no way our little friends from Fringe would have survived.

I've said this before...if the Observers sort of operate outside of time as we know it, and can access it at any point, and know all futures, how can they be surprised by some things. I guess maybe some of them are more powerful/knowing than others?
quote:

Anyone know what the timing was for? Why did they have to do everything at the same time?

To get the two universes vibrating on the same frequency to sort of bolt them together as one, thus destroying them both and creating this new place for flying human dragons to feed grapes to Dr. Spock and wave palm leaves at him to cool him off.
quote:

Strange that moving is the thing that kills them. Is this like a speed thing where if your heart rate goes above a certain rate you die? Not sure how this would work this way. Why would standing still keep it from happening.

Yeah. Or why didn't the previous steps those people took kill them...they all moved at some point to get where they were currently stuck.

Also, how did that fat lady figure it out so quickly that it was moving that made them burn?
quote:

Also do they ever explain why DRJ (or bell) did this? I mean what is the point of killing all these people if you only cared about merging the two universes? Seems like a waste of time if your goal is simply to upset the universe.

Agreed.
quote:

That was a cool reveal when DRJ says "I guess I was the bishop to be sacrificed after all" or whatever. I liked that, just still don't understand what exactly killed DRJ.
quote:

I think it was obvious that Peter saw it. They just didn't waste time jumping back and forth between perspectives (his and the rest of them). Plus, I think that scene was also about trust, which is why Liv just jumped without being able to see anything...she trusted that Peter was taking care of her and not lying.

I would say that it could have something to do with cortexiphan except Broyles can also do it
I find that strange as well, it appears the September that appeared in the past was the one that got shot in this week current episodes

quote:

I don't think Faraday will be happy about what happened to her, maybe told what to do stop the observers

the way her eyes were moving all over the place was hilarious

with Olivia new powers I don't see why she didn't just set things on fire.

I am also confused by the ending of the lase episode. So was Bell dead the whole time, with a part of his consciousness inside of Olivia, if so where did he go after she was shot
that was also a huge risks that shooting her would work.

Hilariously creepy/freaky.

I am assuming he wasn't dead. But that is definitely something that I don't think they addressed...where has he been this whole time? Because apparently he wasn't in either universe. Was he just chilling in his own little universe, like the glimpse that he showed Walter in that room on the boat? And if so, where the frick does that exist? Cuz according to the show, he wants to collapse both universes so that he can create his own...but if it already exists........man, I think I just confused the frick out of myself.

Bell didn't die because he never had to help Olivia Peter and Walter to cross back over after they went to save Peter from the alternate universe. So because that never happened, Bell still was alive in the alternate universe, and likely the cancer was caused by him crossing over Just like DRJ was F up for his escape from prison.

Watched the second episode of our homework last night.

Solid episode. Real solid. Finally explained what Jones was up to. Continuity showing us why he was interested in Olivia.

Superb acting from The Man. I swear I could easily pick Walternate or Walter out in a lineup.

One thing that was silly was waiting to pull the plug. First off, there is zero basis to say the machine wouldn't work again if turned off.

Second, with no time to spare I don't buy for a single second that Washington would defer to Fringe division.

Heck even the Walterverse should have wanted to immediately pull the plug. A partially healed world with no additional damage is certainly better than DEAD.

Plus once again, there was absolutely zero information pointing to a dead machine once deactivated.

Sure they can write it that way but at least base the idea on SOME shred of evidence.

Ah, that makes sense. I wasn't connecting the reset to Bell having never died.

Not sure how much I liked them basically turning Olive into Superman with her do anything we need you to do super powers.

I was a bit upset with the way Jones went out. He deserved a better ending. And no Jones, you weren't the bishop. You were never anything more than a pawn which is kind of sad.

Belly is insane. Who would want to live in a world with spider monsters, slimy slug squids and gargoyles?

I think they went a bit pear shaped with the new monster society angle.

Whole thing makes more sense if he just wants to wipe the slate clean and control the new human society.

Episode wouldn't have lasted long if Jack Bauer was part of the team. Oh, Olive is causing this and we can't turn her off. Bullet to the head, see you next season.

I think Astrid should have died. Instead, she is up and walking about, mere hours after being shot in the gut which is just about the worst place to get shot. Just ask Tony Soprano.

Happy New Years folks.

Can you believe we are almost done? Are we going to drop down to 2 episodes a week to slow down the final season?

I know. I started the thread in May, and we are now in January. I had high hopes for it, and though we have fewer people than we wanted, I'm glad that the three of us have stuck this thing out. And I'm honestly sort of surprised that we've lasted this long and it didn't fizzle out. The Fringe Tripod is a force to be reckoned with.

Hope y'all had a good holiday and we'll pick back up with S5 next week. Though we still have more S4 discussion this week and next week.

We can slow down to two episodes if y'all want, but I'm still good with three. It's up to y'all. There are 13 eps in S5.

2 episodes will be nice. January is tough for me. Retreat next week, than first week of school, than I go to DC for a week for March for Life than things slow down. I may post a couple days early on my comments the week I leave. But I have no way to post while in DC. I won't bring my CPU.
