Moved to a more rural area for the space and larger home. However, the only internet provided here is Hughes net and viasat (AT&T partner). I’ve called every internet provider out there and no one has service at this address.

There is a local satellite provider that I’ve talked to but they want $1700 to install a 60ft pole in the yard to get above the trees.

Neighbors have Hughes net and AT&T air with a landline (not familiar with this option). Anybody have any other ideas? Maybe paying cox to run a line down the road and try to get everyone to pitch in?

ETA: Forgot to mention star link is also not an option here….

Tech board.

Also, Starlink is a good option. This is Elon Musk’s internet provided by satellite. It’s pricey to get started but I think you own all the equipment so after install it’s much cheaper a month.

Is Starlink available in your area? That might be a good solution.

I was in a similar situation recently. I go a tmobile hotspot until I wait for Starlink to come in.

Personally, I can't live (entertain myself) without internet, whether it's web-surfing, youtube or movie/sports streaming services.

A couple of thousand dollars+ is insanely cheap compared to the daily misery I'd suffer with only antenna tv programming and/or a dvd collection. That'd be like stepping back into the 1990s. Whatever option offers you the best reliable strong signal, I personally wouldn't hesitate to pay whatever the price.

If you can get someone to run a line for a dcenr price I'd go that route. Hard-line internet (especially if fiber optic) will be a much better setup Than any kind of remote/wireless internet.

That said. Don't waste your money on HughesNet. Incredibly expensive and slow.

Get Starling or even look into T-mobile 5g whole home internet. If you get decent cell reception, you can get this for around $50/mo. Not the fastest but it will work for basics streaming and internet.

Top 2 suggestions would be starlink or hard line.

Starlink is the answer until more options become available

Had to put ours on the dock 300 feet from house cause all we could get through the phone line was absolute dogshit

How much does a fiber run cost you? Per strand? Sounds like OP lives in the middle of nowhere. Time to start ripping up some concrete and start laying some fiber. Who cares where it terminates. Lol.

go outside and enjoy the solitude

we’ve got a place out in the woods where we have only our old 1080p Sharp TV and a DVD player, cell service in the house is almost nonexistent - if we’re starved for entertainment we put in one of our old favorites on disc

Seems like this would have been something to consider before buying the house.

Why can't they put a satellite dish on your roof? I am very unhappy with Hughes but it does work for general internet. I have been thinking of going wireless internet as I do have a cell tower fairly close and it has basically unlimited data caps. The problem with wireless internet here is they apparently have limited availability. Someone has to move or die before they bring someone new in. Also still have 7 months left on my 2 year Hughes contract.

Figure out which cell provider has strongest service at your house and get a hot spot through them. I have 3 and each is like $20 a month. It’s certainly not fiber but you can stream and surf.

Straight talk has a home internet option that I use in a very rural area that like you said the only options were Hughes net and viasat which both suck. I get around 40-60 mb/s and I’m able to stream easily and play games online

If you have a landline see if they can provide internet. My best option when I lived a mile from the north end of Toledo Bend was ATT through the old original copper telephone line that my grandparents and 3 others had installed as a party line way, way, way, back. It would sometimes take 3 days literally to download a large game though. Speed was mb not gb but it beat satellite and hotspot (local ATT guys always advised stick to landline not to switch no matter the offer from home office).
