Before SpongeBob SquarePants, before Dora the Explorer, before “iCarly,” there was still Nickelodeon.

The Viacom-owned kiddie outlet rose to notice on the backs of programs like “The Adventures of Pete & Pete,” “Double Dare” and “Hey Dude!” And now, its top programming executive suggested, the network is considering ways to bring a small handful of its oldest programs back to its schedule.

“We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way,” Russell Hicks, president of content and development at Nickelodeon, told Variety.

Under the plan, the network might seek to experiment with retooled versions of classics that could include “Rugrats,” “Hey Arnold!” “You Can’t Do That on Television” or “Victorious.” The shows might not come back as series, but could appear in other formats, like a movie or special. And they likely would not constitute the bulk of the network’s development efforts.

Hey Arnold and Rocket Power were the GOAT. It makes it even better now that Raymundo was high 24/7.

Anyone else pissed they lumped a phenomenal show like SpongeBob in with those other two pieces of shite?

I'd rather reruns. The shows are timeless classics. Just let today's kids watch them, or start something new. No reason to reboot.

Considering they stopped Hey Arnold right before the series finale, I would be okay with this

Please let this happen. I looked a Nickelodeon schedule on the tv guide and it is literally nothing but Sponge Bob. I feel bad for the kids today Nickelodeon use to be so good when I was in school. Actually for the last week I've been watching episodes of AS told by Ginger on YouTube, now that was a under rated show.

Do a prequel to Salute Your Shorts with the original cast like Wet Hot American Summer.

Agreed. Wake me up when Invader Zim is on the table. That's a show that could successfully be rejuvenated with the same creative team.

Unlike something like "Pete & Pete," which you just can't recapture. I'll be satisfied if that show just gets a proper DVD release.
