Personally, I hope Fox moves forward with the Deadpool corner-X-Force,New Mutants that are in the present day than doing X-Men proper-especially a story that has essentially been done...but discuss the rumor

I feel like that something you save for down the line...doing Dark Phoenix 1 movie after Jean Grey and Scott Summers are reintroduced? This movie should star the new duo and this timeline is focused on Mystique and Magneto.

I find that hard to believe since Singer set up Phoenix to be an evolution in X2 and then in X3 its like that never happened and they magically turned it into her having multiple personalities.

We haven't spent enough time with Scott and Jean on-screen to do Dark Phoenix yet.
There are other X-Men stories other than Dark Phoenix. Why not try out some other storylines and let us get to know and like the new Scott and Jean?
They aren't iconic characters just because they are Cyclops and Phoenix in name and appearance. Let the audience build a relationship with them.

Unfortunately we'll always get a watered down version of the Phoenix Saga. I doubt they'll take the X-Men into space or introduce any of the support characters from the comics.

I wish they would do a storyline involving the Shi'ar or the Starjammers...OR if they insist on keeping Fantastic Four, a PROPER movie with Galactus and the Silver Surfer crossing over both franchises.

This is Fox, they will barely stick to the comics. Hell it might not even be Jean Grey that is the Dark Phoenix in the movie. They have shown they are willing to change main characters from storylines to align with who their big names are.

Yeah a neutered version would be disappointing. I'd still watch it though

In my opinion, this won't be complete without Mastermind and Jean's service as the Black Queen of the Hellfire Club and betraying the X-Men. If you're going to do Dark Phoenix, that has to be included.
But I doubt it happens as they already blew up Hellfire in first class.

They will have to find a way to make dark Phoenix all about Mystique of course.

If they're going to alter the source material, I would much rather them expand it rather than making it work for different characters.
They could downsize Mastermind's involvement and pull in bringing Jean into Hellfire and soon enough later she's really the one that's running the show and she kills off Shaw, Mastermind, Selene, LeLand and others. And then recruits her own band of mutants to be her puppets with the exception of trying to bring in Cyclops to be her Black King to her Black Queen and when he successfully resists through extreme will power, this may be the trigger for the emergence of Dark Phoenix.

It would take a lot of reverse engineering and backtracking in the timeline to do it regardless of whether or not they use new characters. I doubt Singer and his writers are that creative and capable enough to do it without it getting messy to WTF am I watching levels.

Yeah I'm not buying to Umberto's exclusives. Before James Gunn had even finished writing GotG 2, Umberto said he had three separate sources confirming that J'Son would be the father of Peter Quill (this was after he swore up and down that J'Son was locked in as his father before Gunn had even began writing the movie). After Gunn basically said he was full of shite, Umberto said that he stood by his sources. Gunn has repeatedly said since then that J'Son would not be Peter's father and as far as I know, Umberto has not retracted.
He is very hit and miss with DC too. His "exclusives" are never right and he chases every fart in the wind with the rumors that he reports.

1) This would make no sense, as the current timeline/characters don't support this story.
2) Until they actually put some depth into Cyclops, I don't want to see it. He's just as important to the story as Jean is.
