It was basically a shot for shot adaptation of the graphic novel. The only difference was the ending...which was better.

Luther does this on a few occasions in the comics...

Not really on the scale I'm talking about, nor does he go as low as I'm talking about either. Plus I'd make Luthor and Superman incredibly reluctant allies to take down this threat.

So, for all of his training and his sworn duty to fight the criminal element in all manner to avenge the loss of his father and mother, Bruce put the cowl on for just a little over two and a half years total and ran away when the going got tough?

Actually, TDK takes place 6 months after Begins. So you could say that Bruce was Batman for well under 12 months when you add it all together. Kind of a downer when you think about it.

As for Man of Steel, I would've passed out if they played the first few notes of the John Williams' theme at the 1:01 mark of the trailer....but I have to accept that they've moved on from that. For all of the reality that I've come to expect from Nolan having his fingerprints on the movie, it looks like its going to be pretty fantastical. We'll look back at Superman 1 & 2 as being much more "grounded." The themes and characters in MoS might have more depth, but my fear is that the movie will be a huge CGI fest that will try to overcompensate due to how shitty and boring Superman Returns was. I guess I hate that the Last Son of Krypton really isn't the last son. It seems more like an alien invasion movie than a story set around how would the world react if a man suddenly appeared who could theoretically solve some of our biggest problems. That's the realism I hoped they were going to go for.

That said, I can't wait to see it.

Kind of negates the purpose of superhero fantasy doesn't it? Since Nolan's Bat films are realistic and all.

I understand your point, and I enjoy the turn off, sit back and relax movies like iron man, but what set the Nolan batman series apart for me was the fact that they felt like crime epics. Especially the dark knight. It was like Heat, but with a guy in a cape. The opening sequence to that film is one of my all time favorites. Now granted the batman story has a built in level of realism that others don't. But with Nolan's films I just felt that the character development and relationships grounded the movie in a way that others do not.

Nolan made an effort to set them in a real world and have the environment and the inhabitants respond and react in a real way.

Looks like they applied that to superman. Nothing real about it
These contradictions made me chuckle.

Uhhhh, they're superhero movies. What part of that is actually real? Do we have previous examples of aliens/playboys fighting crime with their bare hands in the history of humanity?

The character of superman, batman, joker, etc... Are not realistic and Nolan's realism had nothing to do with making them like that. It's the environments

Exactly. Superman will outlive everyone he knows and loves. I really wish they'd make this into the storyline into the future. Smallville did a good job of capturing this.

Somehow in the last one, he was an emotionless ball of skin.
