This is one of the very few movies this year that I'm excited to go see. It's been a pretty boring year movie wise so far.

The orcs did look pretty awful. The CG in LOTR looked great probably because there was a minimal amount of it, but there was just WAY too much in the Hobbit, and a lot of it looked bad. That being said, the finding of the ring was perfect. I just hope that the "Big B" is done well in the new movie.

ETA: Just watched the preview, why the hell is Legolas in the movie?

Pretty much. As most know, I'm a big Tolkien guy. Not a worship him, go dress up and fake sword fights for points, or jack off to princess leia type guy. But I do love the books and know them pretty well. So I've taken this personal

I never thought I could not want freckles in a movie. Peter Jackson managed to make that happen.

This movie will certainly be epic.

There was no reason for Legolas to be mentioned in the book, timeline wise, yet we are getting a Legolas love story.

If i am not mistaken, he wasnt called legolas in the book, but there was a prince of mirkwood mentioned in the book, and they have already said that elf Kate is not a love interest of legolas, they jusy needed a female presence in the movie..pretty much the same reason they expanded Arwen's role in LOTR.

He's also using the third movie to finish up the hobbit and link it to the LOTR trilogy. I think they'll do a good job.

All that being said, I enjoyed the first. But without even seeing the second I know I won't enjoy it as much. There was no reason for Legolas to be mentioned in the book, timeline wise, yet we are getting a Legolas love story. The main gripe is that they all pitched these as the most true to the books of all of em. Give me a break. Peter Jackson is basically saying yeah I don't care about the books and I can make a better story.

Honestly, why not add it? The Hobbit is an absolute sausage fest, so if I were making this movie, I'd put in Legolas and a love interest for him. If Tolkein had foresaw Lord of the Rings, I think he would have added him into the narrative, because he would have been present for the events of the novel.

Thought it was going to be the trailer I just watched in theaters a couple days ago when I went to watch gravity.

There was a trailer with an extended scene showing Bilbo talking to Smaug.

I understand why they added Evangeline Lillys character. I guess it was a sausage fest, but nohomo that never bothered me. And I never saw anybody on here complain about that in the 1st Hobbit threads. O well.

But this is not a true to form movie, not even close. And thats what they were saying before these were released. Mainly its a Peter Jackson now sucks in my opinion thing.

Tom Bombadil was one of the more intriguing characters there is. But they add Radagast? Its mentioned in the appendices that Azog killed Thorins grandpa, I think. So now he is the main bad guy in two movies.

Beorn, my second favorite character in the book next to Smaug, is apparently played by Kenny Powers/Rod Stewart

People will watch the movie and love it, mission accomplished. But %90 of the people will walk away thinking that is the story of the Hobbit, when honestly, its not even close.

I guess im the alone in all this. But im just listing my complaints.

I've only read/saw where they said they were going to add to the story with the appendices and flesh out the Middle-Earth universe, such as Evangeline's character, etc. Movies are different storytelling then books. I am about the biggest Tolkien purist there is, and I understand this and accept it. Would I have rather had Azog dead as in the books? Sure. But I get why he was added in the movies.

I beg to differ. Bombadil was boring to me. Yes, he was cool, in a mysterious "What the frick is he?" sorta way, but I didn't miss him in the LOTR, and to say that Radagast does not help in the back story of the Necromancer, is saying you never really read all the appendices and Unfinished Tales.

Agree, except that he wasn't one of my favorites in the book. Another Bombadil-esque character. To me.

I'd much rather people like you that have complaints about the movies because of the books, then people who only see the movies, and know nothing else.
