Netflix's Death Note might be one of the worst movies I've seen.

It completely misses what made the show so good. Death Note anime is about a game of wits and moral decisions. This movie doesn't have either of those things and is completely rushed with no substance. I think we won't see any anime adaptation movies in the west for a long time after this and Ghost in the Shell.

Anime Adaptations in America should have died after Dragonball Evolution

Had no idea people here watched that. Maybe we need a thread.

I liked the first season of AoT, but it just got kind of weird for me after that.

Weird how? There's only 12 episodes in season 2. The plot is only now starting to get larger and more expansive.

It was primarily the way that they make the Titans look.

Like yeah, being stuck in an apocalyptic world is gonna suck balls and it creates tension, but this one, at least to me, was probably one of more ridiculous ones out there.

I tried to like it, got HULU for it, and it alone, but just lost interest.

I'm watching Cowboy Bebop again now since the Blu-Rays were on sale on Amazon lol.

The anime was pretty crappy compared to the manga

Or you just need studio execs with the balls to give the job to someone who cares about the content. Obviously movie studios would rather make 100 melissa mccarthy fatty doo-doo films with lazy shite scripts that make money than 25 really really good films that wow and amaze people with great scripts.

Most of them look retarded. Like they literally have down's syndrome.

Yeah, I found the anime art-style to be extremely disturbing.

Live action, not so much ...

Well, done watching it. Certainly not the worst movie I've ever seen. Willem Defoe was great as Riot. Pretty much worth watching just for that.

That being said, the movie did have some problems even for someone like me that didn't watch the anime or read the manga.

The Book and certain rules pertaining to it are poorly explained, and I'll leave it at that for those not wanting to be spoiled.

The OP's criticism about not being a game of wits and morals is somewhat off. It does become a game of wits and morals, just probably not in the way the other sources had it.

Other than an unnecessary chase scene towards the end, it was an enjoyable movie. I've certainly watched and enjoyed worse.

Edit: The ending is very WTF though. It's one of those movies that just kinda ends and leaves you hanging. I think it would have worked better as a mini - series than a stand alone movie.

I thought ARQ was pretty good

I think the only other one I've seen is Spectral, which was just ok, but a decent action movie.

Spectral wasn't bad. It got hilariously hokey when they throw together these futuristic super weapons in what is basically a cave.

Decent overall though.

The Japanese Death Note movie is very good, imo.

I liked the ending way better than the anime's ending.

Melo and Near were god awful characters compared to L.
