The first trailer premiered is for The Crown, a period drama about the British royal family in the 20th century helmed by Frost/Nixon's Peter Morgan. The series stars Claire Foy as Princess Elizabeth and Doctor Who's Matt Smith as the man who'd become Prince Philip. It looks a little like Netflix's answer to stuffy, talky dramas like PBS's Downton Abbey. The Crown doesn't have a premiere date yet, but it's set to arrive on Netflix later this year.

First Trailer

This looks promising.

I'm looking forward to it. I did some research/reading on Elizabeth II for a class and had no idea what all happened for her to become Queen. Nor some of the things she faced early on. Should make for good TV.

Looks interesting. I've read a biography of Elizabeth and seen probably 10 or more documentaries about her long reign. Philip was a broke, exiled prince that many considered an opportunist at the time. He is no doubt a very proud man, and I could see him having a problem kneeling to his wife when a young man. Naturally, most of this will be made up entirely, but I will watch it.

I wonder if they will address the fact that Elizabeth and Philip are third cousins. They share great grandparents = Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

Royalty dramas are always super boring to me. The Tudors was dreadful and it had a lot more or a fun storyline to work with than this

Looks decent. I'm a huge Doctor Who nerd, so I'll watch it for Matt Smith.

Just watched a good bit of it....beautifully done and Lithgow is a superb Churchill

The only technical inaccuracy that really stood out was the 1940 scene with squadron of Lancasters flying over buckingham palace....

I finished it Saturday. Its OK. Good acting and good sets but in the end, the story is very uneventful.
