I'm sure it's already been discussed, but just started watching this series. It is a fantastic series and I would highly recommend everyone give it a chance!

Definitely.
I don't give a single frick about the royal family, but I'm a sucker for a good period piece and this one is very well done.
Anticipating season 2.

It's well done but I get annoyed with how sympathetic they tried to make former King Edward and his wife. They were awful. They also made some events up out of this air to make Churchill look bad. I wish they had stuck more to history.

It's right up there with the best I've seen on Netflix. It will be 6 seasons each covering a decade of time. They will recast the Queen and Phillip for season 3/4 and then for 5/6. Can't wait for the Diana years! Lithgow gave the best performance. This is actually a series Netflix has toned down and the clever WRITING is some of the best I've seen on Netflix.

The score does an excellent job of building tension at times.

I think they did a good job with him especially. He plays the sympathetic card to his family, but then turns around and does nothing but talk shite about everyone of them to his wife. The writers made him look like a complete bitch IMO

The last episode King Edward had some of the best lines!

Ok. Maybe I haven't seen that part yet. Where I am, they are playing them as sympathetic. In real life he was a Nazi sympathizer.
The production values on this series are really impressive and are much of what keeps me watching.

I don't think they did this at all

which events are you referring to?
I would google different plot points in the story to see if they really occurred and overall it looks like they hit the nail on the head with this story
obviously they had to condense some things or change something here or there to move the story along, but overall a lot of the stuff appears to be historically accurate

The first coming to mind was the great smog. There was a great smog, but the events surrounding it on the show such as the weather station seeing it coming, ignored warnings, Churchill handling it in a bumbling way, were made up. His assistant dying in it was made up.
Prince Philip (not Prince Charles ) refusing to kneel was a big dramatic argument and plot line, but made up.

I'm basing that on how he was portrayed in the events up to and during the coronation. It focused on him a lot, even during the coronation. And during the coronation itself there was a focus on his love with his wife. I think having him explain to his friends the significance of the crown was pretty effective, however, since the show was using it as a way of explaining to the world watching "the crown" on Netflix. I thought that was clever.
I also felt we were supposed to feel sympathy for him that he couldn't be there with his wife, and sympathy because of how his mother treated him on the show. From the way y'all are reacting, I take it he is not presented this way later on.

Actually I thought they made King Edward and Mrs. Simpson look bad enough. I had no idea they were so bitter and grasping. I thought they had just sailed off into the sunset, afloat upon their love.

Why? He was only around 4-5 years old
