AMC has their Stubs Premiere cards

If MoviePass is putting money on a debit card and you go on Tuesday and get $5 off the ticket using the Stubs card, can you use the remainder at the concession? Or would that be monitored?

Was I the only one that read Ted Farnsworth's quote from the article in the Professor's voice from Futurama?

They monitor. And if you get a discount ticket, they remove the extra money from the card. They've cancelled memberships for people who try to get around the rules by using the card elsewhere, or ordering a ticket for one movie and actually buying a ticket for a movie they've already seen using the service. They're not Nazis about it, but they do watch.

And if your app acts up, you can call them and they'll put money on the card for your movie.

.not sure the box office would be wild about that model though.

Its not the box office that is making that call.

He believes the convenience and cheapness of the product will lead to more getting the service than actually use it.

Its a big gamble IMO, but the movie industry can't stop him.

Hell my local bouldering gym does that and it seems to have spurred their sales.

He still has to make agreements with the theater chains. He's in 90% of the theaters in the U.S. right now.

That's something else, if a theater changes ownership the app will sometimes not see the new theater. Movie Tavern in Baton Rouge wasn't an approved theater for a year, even thought the one at Jubans was listed. They still listed the old Citiplace theater with no showings. Same thing with the Celebrity Theater on Coursey. Took a while for them to get that theater lined up. As of now they're all active in Baton Rouge.

I'd pay 15. Its a brilliant plan to sustain the water revenue and keep the big screen experience alive essentially forever.

Sadly though, the theater owners will balk at the idea and won't realize what they could've had until it is too late.

Do they?

What's the agreement? Pretty much all variable info is available online, and you are swiping a standard debit card that will pay a standard charge.

Their reasoning is that its unsustainable and will ultimately fail? I dont get that at all. They have someone basically lining up customers at their box office and paying their way in. Who says no to that?

Good. F them. They deserve it.

Rip you off on the ticket.

Then ... try to royally rip people off on concessions.

Perhaps if they drastically lowered the price of a fricking coke and large popcorn ... more people would go and more often.

Folks, the theaters are not losing any money. They would actually make more money with this model due to concession sales.

Movie Pass is paying the theaters for the price of the ticket. The gamble is, so many people sign up for the service because of its cheap price that the revenue from the people who aren't going to the movies covers and exceeds the cost of the people going to the movies regularly.

Its a huge gamble that likely wouldn't pay off for many years if at all.
