Have read GoT, I don't feel like getting into Wheel of Time bc I don't want to read 14 books.

I want to read a good book, without a bunch of sequels, that has good pacing, and an interesting story. I can never decide on a book.

I thought about picking up Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but I'm not huge on the typical crime dramas

While the Dan Brown books definitely lack in some (ok, a lot) of areas, one area they don't lack is in their easy readability. You can fly through those books.

Davinci Code, Angels & Demons. If you'd rather go the govt conspiracy route than the religious conspiracy route, Digital Fortress is an option.

not for the first 100 or so pages.

have you read the left behind series? if you arent a religious person, they are great fiction books. If you are, it is a great fiction series based on the rapture/second coming of jesus/apocolypse. its like 12 books, but all of them are fairly quick reads.

Joe Hill, Stephen King's son, has a new book out. I haven't gotten to it yet, but it looks good. Called Nos4a2

I don't like his books at all, but from the two that I have read, they are definitely "fast paced" quick reads. He uses decent cliffhangers. Even a slow reader should get through one of his books in a few days at most.

Are you a child of the 80's? If so, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.

I've seen the Davinci code movies though, wish I hadn't but now I know the story. Don't want to read left behind series, plus it's 12 books...

We're around the same age, July 88, so I'd think you'd enjoy it. Supposedly Ridley Scott wants to make this movie but after seeing Prometheus I'm a little hesitant. Yet I still bought the blurry

Day by Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne

It's a short (200 pages or so) fast paced zombie book told in the first person as the apocalypse happens. It's incredible. It has a sequal out called beyond exile, and part 3 should be out some time this year.

This was a great read as well. Have the second book but just kinda lost interest after I started a reread of ASOIAF.

Ice Station by Matthew Reilly. His books are the epitome of fast-paced action novels.

The Night Angel Trilogy by Brian Weeks.

Lots and lots of fun... and some not so fun

You can knock those out in a couple weeks, easy.

And this. Patrick Rothfuss knows how to write, though I hate the tangential plotlines he uses. They seem a bit out of place. Book 3 isn't out yet, either, which is annoying, but I eagerly anticipate.

ETA: O and how could I forget, the Gentlemen Bastard Sequence by Scott Lynch. The Lies of Locke Lamora is fantastic and Red Seas Under Red Skies is very enjoyable as well. Problem is those are the only 2 books out in a projected 7 book series.
