Objectively? Who gets to decide what the "facts" are? Nothing objective to see here. Move along...

Facts are facts. We write what we know and don't assume or imply anything.

Good for NBC; he's a POS.

You know, that actually isn't a bad idea. He should have to go to some small market and be forced to cover crap stories for six months. Make him earn his stripes back.

"...and local fire officials say the fire hydrant should be fixed by the end of the day. For Dothan's Eyewitness News, this is Brian Williams."

Exactly.

Dude is a compulsive liar

In a position whose job it is to disseminate information. Telling the truth is paramount to the ethics of the journalism profession. If journalists are just completely lying, it makes the profession worse than useless. It isn't just some fib to your boss to make yourself look better. It is a betrayal to the entire profession. For him it is a huge deal, and his career should be over.

There's bias in everything. Even if it's just deciding which facts to include and which to omit, it can change how things look completely. It's pretty much impossible to avoid completely, even if the reporting source has the best of intentions.

I may be wrong here, but he fluffed a few stories. He apologized on air about his helicopter being hit. Maybe he remembered it that way? Or he is just an idiot. As far as the fact that he "saw a body floating in the French Quarter" after Katrina, a place that didn't flood, wouldn't you think they would have that on camera? I didn't hear him say he witnessed it, but said he heard someone said that. The problem with these news reporters is that they report on things without checking sources first. And the best part is the high level "executives" at NBC and the way they are handling it. They are the ones that should be fired for ever letting that shite on air. PERIOD. NBC is known for bullshite. Remember they altered the 911 call of George Zimmerman to make it sound like he was profiling a black guy. They conveniently cut out the fact that the 911 operator asked him to describe the man. Also, remember the Dateline story in the 90s where they added explosives to the underbellies of GMCs and crashed them into guardrails making up the fact that they "explode" upon impact. They later apologized and looked like idiots. NBC is the problem. PERIOD. They need an overhaul of ALL those idiots in upper management there.

I admit that I haven't been following this story that closely. If it's exactly as you describe, I don't think I really disagree completely with your idea. Someone has to be held responsible for reporting bad news though. It is an important standard to expect.

A better response would be to make him a reporter in Barrow, AL or something.

Barrow Alaska would be far worse than Barrow Alabama.

Williams should have been terminated immediately. He's now a confirmed liar, has been the DNC's back pocket for years and he's more interested in being a celebrity than a news anchor.

That he still remains employed says a great deal about NBC's news division.

If by fluff you mean lied then he fluffed some stories. However, here's the deal the American public expects to have with news organizations who are delivering information to them, and it goes like this, NEVER FREAKING LIE TO ME.

Brian Williams has been omitting the news during much of the obama administration's term in office. He ignored the Jonathan Gruber story and the IRS scandal.

Williams has been a partisan joke for quite some time.

If they have grounds to suspend him then he should be terminated along with all at NBC who knew about this and never said a word. Complete lack of credibility and integrity. A 6 month vacation for a multi millionaire. What a joke.

NBC is awful. From MSNBC to The Today Show, the entire organization is garbage.

I find it very frustating that when Hillary blatantly lies about multiple things it's just kind of chuckled away, but Brian Williams gets the hammer.

How did he get the hammer? He got a 6 month vacation to take time away and do whatever the frick he wants to do, because he is rich as frick. rich as frick people can enjoy a six month suspension without pay.

Firing him would have been the hammer. He didn't get any punishment for this. I imagine it will be a festive atmosphere for his triumphant return in August.

For the sake of clarity, news is chosen by somebody. Right? There is not a small 30 or 60 minute chunk of stuff happening. Somebody picks the stories. Details can be included, emphasized, or omitted and still be factual. Even if incomplete. Likewise some things can be fabricated. And some stories can be left out altogether. This is a totally subjective process. Brian just chose to take it to new levels. As did Dan Rather at CBS.
