The joke was that the practice confession went so bad, he decided just to give him a compliment instead of having to relive being told what a horrible person he was
Posted on 7/20/22 at 12:27 pm to CubanSaint
It would have been funnier to work it out a few times with him being told over and over what a piece of shite he was until he got it to a manageable spot and then he used that line on the real guy and then filmed the real reaction.

I’m now recalling that scene in N4U when he made that actress say “I love you” over and over

100% that was the point. After everything that happened in the episode, the great lengths that Nathan went through to help this guy, he couldn’t practice what he preached when there was a possibility that the morally questionable thing that he did (subconsciously feeding him the trivia answers) would upset the guy so greatly. Nathan only wants to help people in an obsessive effort to be liked himself, to see himself as the good guy, and he chickened out when it was possible that confessing would cause the guy to be legit angry at him for what he did. He couldn’t stand the thought of this guy being mad at him.

I wasn't even thinking of it that way. I saw Nathan's decision to not confess to him to be more about not wanting to ruin everything for the guy and upset him.

New episode was only 30 minutes and is part one. Was hilarious.

Episode two’s opening is solid gold. The concept is wild.
And that was one weird dude who signed up to be the “dad.”

When he pulls out the bong and starts taking hits…and seeing Nathan’s look of disgust…I just lost it.

that dude was so offended that Nathan fed him the answers for trivia. He thinks he would’ve won had he not gotten all the answers fed to him leading up to the show and bashed Nathan instead of thanking him for all the crazy lengths he went to. trivia is life!
You gotta go rewatch the end of the episode.
That was Nathan rehearsing the confession…

Nathan Fielder could legitimately be the most comedic genius alive but nobody will ever give the credit because he’s so damn deadpan.
I liked the Rehearsal but it doesn’t compare to Nathan For You just yet. I watched the finale of NFY for the first time the other night. Finding Frances might be one of the most brilliant shows I’ve ever seen.

Watched episode 2, definitely a setup for the next episode. The next episode must be completely wild because that’s the only reason I can see for not cutting it down to a longer single episode. The lady in this episode is a complete and total nut!

An unforgettable line

Finding Frances was a fitting end to the show. Hard to top. So much good shite in that episode:
Mud 2: Never Clean
Age progressionist Cornelius Ladd
57th year high school reunion
Maci the very self-aware escort
Bill completely nailing the 2016 Presidential Election
The call to Frances that was bittersweet but kind of perfect
I don't care how much of its staged or acted, Nathan Fielder just delivers compelling, funny television.
Have enjoyed the first two episodes of The Rehearsal just as much. Moving the entire bar set to Oregon was so hilarious to me for some reason. I would love to see what sort of ridiculous budget he is working with now. Cannot wait to see Nathan play dad to the crazy woman playing mom.

Saw this interesting theory on the Nathan for You subreddit (which has basically become a Rehearsal subreddit)
quote:This would make perfect sense.
The Rehearsal is about to take a huge turn, right? Feels like this will become a narrative show about Nathan exploring the themes he discussed at the end of E2. It’ll be his rehearsal, and E1 was a big misdirection. The fact that he’s involving himself, blurring the line between reality and fiction. Plus, transporting the bar indicates some continuity that an episodic show wouldn’t have. Not to mention the last episode is called “Pretend Daddy” and hasn’t been seen by any reviewers.

it feels like they had a plan for the season but never anticipated the turn episode 2 would take. and it became the whole season which is why episode 1 feels out of place.

No kidding. It’s a great jacket.

I wonder if Nathan is going to slowly start replacing all of the real people in the Oregon house with animatronic people like the nighttime baby as he immerses himself into his big Rehearsal. Just basing this on the show poster.

Agreed, but deep down I think she's a good person who latched onto religion to escape a bad history.
The dude was straight trash and in that respect the Rehearsal truly saved her from being with someone who was unstable and predatory.
