That's because the movie cut out the entire back story laid out in the books.

But it's not a bad movie. The book is actually a solid quick read.

There are actually a few legitimately hilarious scenes in that movie.

It has a rough start but when you settle into the characters and get over your expectations it's funny. I think they should've reshot the opening scenes. It feels like they sort of filmed the movie in order and Carry and Daniels really got back into character about 15 mins in after they set the movie up and they start their trip.

The scene when you meet Harrys parents is absolutely a riot.

Daniel Day-Lewis tried his best to carry that movie, but I just couldn't get past the wankery of it all. It just tried way too hard. The best part of that movie was the Anchorman 2 scene.
