This September it will be 15 years since the release of Band of Brothers on HBO (first episode aired 9/9/01). I was in the UK the first time I saw it (December '01).

It is my favorite miniseries ever...it got me wondering. What others stand the test of time? Off the top of my head:

Roots
The Civil War (Ken Burns)
Shogun
Lonesome Dove

What am I missing?

ETA: Technically a documentary but I'll count it.

Firefly

Had to be a miniseries, right, why else would it have only had one season?

I can tell you why, but you might not like it.

Firefly (and Freaks and Geeks, for that matter) was too good to be on television.

Jesus of Nazareth. To me, it's still the best film centered around the life of Jesus. The acting and music are phenomenal.

Band of brothers should have been an automatic answer

Huh?The story was discovered to be a complete fabrication/fraud...not sure how it can "stand the test

People have been down-voted for less than that. The Stand and IT broke my heart. I wanted them to be good so freakin bad.

I'm pretty sure Lonesome Dove was fabricated, too. To me it didn't have to be a true story to be an excellent miniseries. Plus...I live less than 5 miles from Alex Haley's old farm...so I forgive him.

What does that have to do with anything at all?
