I really like Jeff Nichols' films, including Midnight Special, but the last 20 minutes really just went to shite. Anyone else feel this way?

I can add spoilers to the title if it goes in that direction...

Yep. Ending killed it for me. Rest of the movie is great though

Probably his second weakest movie after Shotgun Stories. It's all relative though. He hasn't made a bad movie, yet.

Exactly. I liked Midnight Special for the most part, but it is almost like he had no idea how he wanted to end it. The acting was solid. The beginning was badass. Just couldn't close it out.

Spoiler

I think the car flipping over and over took away from the moment for me. It seemed comical almost.

He and slick Willy are the only good things to come out of Arkansas that I'm aware of.

I was extremely disappointed by this movie. The exchange(look) at the end was terrible and I just couldn't wrap my head around how it all went down the way it did

Pretty much my thoughts too. There are too many questions left unanswered.

He brother, Ben, fronts my favorite band - Lucero.

He's done a lot of music r Jeff's movies. He did "Shelter" for Take Shelter and "Loving" for Loving.

I could understand you not being a Billy Bob Thornton fan, but don't all Aggies worship at the Bear Bryant alter?

Agree on the fizzle, though some of it looked pretty cool.

Anyone else get a Stranger Things vibe? Time period aside, there's a dimension-bridging wonderkid, on the run from government spooks and spirited away by true believers.

Greenwood's score was such a dead ringer in places I had to look it up to see if the same composers were involved.

The score was very appropriately mixed in. The pace and everything was good up until..

Agree with this. My expectations were admittedly pretty high after seeing Take Shelter and Mud, but the ending just didn't work for me.
