Masters Of The Air (Band of Brothers and The Pacific 'Sequel')

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg are supposed to be making another WWII mini series for HBO.

There was a thread on this at the beginning of 2013 when this article and a few others came out. Has anyone heard anything about it lately?
I recently rewatched Band of Brothers and I'm in the process of rewatching The Pacific. I hope this one lives up to the reputation of the first two.

I still have only watched about the first 1/3 or 1/2 of The Pacific...I need to get on that. I just sort of got bored the first time, and never got back into wanting to watch it immediately.
I may try to knock that out over the holidays or something.

I can watch BoB over and over. The Pacific on the other hand is not rewatchable. It doesnt pull you in to feel for the characters like BoB did.

Used to feel the same way. BoB has better character development that really draws you in.
I watched a Pacific marathon on HBO on Veteran's Day, over 10 straight hours. By the end of the day the show really got to me. I had trouble sleeping a bit that night. 10 hours straight of brutal violence. When I originally watched it was a week to week show, but when you binge watch it, wow, you really get a sensory overload of the violence and brutality of the war in the Pacific. Much greater appreciation now.

Pacific is definitely rewatchable...
BoB is better, but The Pacific's opening theme is better than BoB.

The Pacific was certainly more focused on the psychological torment aspect of the individual characters throughout the war, which was very different than the "bond" and "brotherhood" narrative in BoB. This made it seem slower as it surrounded the 3 main characters, and not a whole unit. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed The Pacific because it wasn't just BoB in the Pacific theatre.
My only complaint with BoB is that I had to rewatch the series in order to match the names and faces of all the guys in Easy Company. Sometimes I just got confused about who was talking about who.

Yeah I remember when Tom Hanks was interviewed about The Pacific he mentioned how it was a conscious choice to make sure there wasn't a "glory of war" feel to it. They wanted to document how horrible and unglorified it really was.

The Pacific captured the feel of the war in that region perfectly.
There was no glory in the fighting, no liberation of cities...just death...and the next island.
With BOB you had a group of guys who were freeing europe so the bond was tighter....

My dad, from Bastrop,La., was in that Bossier city/Shreveport group. Went to London for several years and bombed the Germans all over the place,North Afica, Europe, Germany a lot. I look forward to see a movie about what my late father did in the war. He used to talk about it,but would get upset,even cry whwn a similar movie would come out in the 60's/70's. That Clark Gable Air Force movie was all about dad's bombing effort.

I've said it here before - The Pacific suffered from trying to tell 3 stories in one series. It just didn't work.
I think they could have maybe put the Leicke and Sledge books together into one series successfully. But the Basilone part was of a different tone. I think his story would have been better as a stand alone movie.

I'll watch. But I'd like to see Spielberg & Hank distanced themselves from WW2 series. It would be nice to see them have a series about the Korean War or Vietnam.
