Amazing movie and will be seeing again.

Agreed. This actually IS the Superman movie I've wanted to see since I was a kid...and I'm old enough to have seen the first Donner movie in the theater in 1978 as an 8 year old.

Loved the tone, loved the way they told the origin story, really liked the casting, I liked the way they made Zod multidimensional rather than just "Kneel before Zod!!!"

I can certainly see where people who, for some reason, cling to the first 2 Reeve movies as cannon will dislike this one. It isn't that, but then it's not trying to be. It can be long, and there are a few times near the climax where I could have done without a bit of action that seemed unnecessary to shorten it a bit...or the time could have been spent with a few more scenes with Ma and Pa Kent, who were great.

Honestly...have a feeling the majority of complaints about this version will stem from the movie not being like the Reeve's versions. It's darker...there is more weight to it...there are choices he has to make and they are handled in a more adult way than flying fast and making the earth rotate backwards on itself and turning back time. If you go into expecting that or else you'll be unhappy...save yourself the case and stay home.

Spot on. Supes didn't care about civilian casualties , wasn't charming, and I need a global superman saving African kids. That's what separates him from other heroes

I fouund myself feeling sorry for Zod at times. He clearly had some remorse about some of his actions. It is also clear that he felt powerless in choosing any different course (not that I think he would have). He repeatedly noted he was designed to be who he was.

Yep and he was able to get this across without saying anything at times, the way he but his lips, or rolled his eyes. He knew he was wrong, but felt heavily burdened. It seemed he was close to being convinced of the wrongness if his course by Jor-El in their very first encounter. But he dismissed sound reasoning for hard wired marching orders

So what I understand from reading certain reviews is that this is essentially a "blow shite up superhero movie" without much substance. That correct?

Just stirring the pot a bit. But that's the sense I'm getting from certain reviews. Either way, I've got to see it now. Low expectations are a good thing for me.

Nah. Don't get me wrong...a ton of shite blows up! But there is a ton of story. It's just not the story we've been accustomed to seeing before. We get the origin story, but a slightly different one and told in a way that gives it new life.

Honestly, I think the people for whom this movie will ring hollow will be those going in expecting a certain version of the character and then being disappointed they didn't get that.

If what you want is a bunch of Clark tooling around the Daily Planet in glasses and bumping into shite, or the Lois/Clark/Superman love story then you might be a bit disappointed.

Way off. Lot of substance, just presented in an entirely different way.

Right. And one more thing while I'm thinking about it...

Remember a lot of the criticisms of Iron Man 3 being a different movie in tone than what viewers were lead to believe they'd be getting by the really exceptionally good trailer? That does not happen here. If you enjoyed the tone and feel of the trailer for MoS, then the movie is just 2 1/2 hours of that. No bait and switch here...

I loved this! The entire planet is at stake. Do think he is worried about a few people, if failure to win the fight could cause the genocide of the entire human species?

I also liked that no one was evil. If you put yourself in Zod's position I could easily see making the same choices.

I kind of go with the critics because I'm not a film nerd to the point that I've ever seen a French film, but I'm not the type to go see some bullshite like Ironman 3 because I know what is coming: Stuff I've seen a million times.

Nolan being involved made me think Man of Steel was gonna be done right, and let's be honest, nothing is harder to make than a Superman movie because he is squeaky clean and can only be compromised by kryptonite or someone else from Krypton with similar powers.

Tough gig, but I had hopes that Nolan could do it. Seeing the critic's reviews, I'm kinda bummed. May pass on a theater watch.

You would be doing yourself a great disservice by allowing paid professionals to dampen your excitement. The audience reaction is at 82% percent positive. I thought it was a fantastic film.

Just got back from watching it. I kind of liked it.

But after watching the movie, I can understand why the reviews are so mixed. It succeeds and fails in different areas.

The pacing was really uneven, especially the first half of the movie. I can understand why it isn't a totally accessible movie because many parts of the movie required me to fill in the blanks from my personal knowledge of the character(s). So for the average movie-goer who's main knowledge of Superman is from pop culture, the Reeve films, and Smallville, I can understand how such a tonal shift of the character can be disappointing.

With that said, it should be a crowd-pleaser to the die-hard fans. And of course, if nothing else, it was pretty to look at.
