Man... is there any other actor like Leonardo Dicaprio?

What I mean is, is there any other actor who consistently takes on these roles of a lifetime and always gives a mediocre performance unworthy of an oscar? I mean seriously, he must be dying to win an academy award. Just taking a look at his film resume:
Revenant
Great Gatsby
Django Unchained
Wolf of Wall Street
Inception
Revolutionary Road
Blood Diamond
The Departed
Aviator
Catch Me If You Can
Gangs of New York
Titanic
You can tell the only work he pursues are the movies most likely to win "Best Picture" at the oscars. And not that there's anything wrong with that. But when you constantly take on these roles of a lifetime that are greater than your acting abilities, the movie falls short of greatness itself. Sure Leonardo Dicaprio is decent and does a decent job at them, but I would like to have seen some different better actors take on these roles and bring them to the next level. Simply put, if you've been given the opportunity to take on the roles of Jay Gatsby, Howard Hughes, Frank Abagnale Jr, Hugh Glass, Jordan Belfort, and you still havent won an oscar, you're probably not a very good actor.
All in all, Leo is just an average actor who constantly somehow gets acting roles unworthy for him. That's why he's been nominated so many times and never won. He has never blown me away by one of his performances as someone like Jack Nicholson or Daniel-Day Lewis would.

The producers/directors of all those movies chose him as well, not like he just takes them because he wants to. Why would he not take these rolls as offered to him
And you don't have to love him, but he's way better than just "average"

He should have got Oscar for Basketball Diaries. Everything past that was meh.

Leo is the man and on his way to the GOAT. Ignore the haters that will invade the thread. They probably think Iron Man 3 is a top 10 movie of all time.

Agreed. Anytime he has a film coming out, I'm there.

Tom Hanks says hi.
I've never been a fan of Leo (actually I can't stand his movies or his overacting), but even I can't deny he is my generation's best actor.
GOAT he never will be, ever. But he is still an amazing actor.

I count 6 movies I liked on that list.
But Blood Diamond is up there with my favorite movies of all time!!!

Too many posters try way too hard on this board and the Music Board. He's a fantastic actor and you know he is. Quit trying to be Siskel and Ebert and make us and yourself think you have some Jedi ability to know what "real" acting is. You pretentious pricks crack me up.

Leonardo DiCaprio is a good actor but I wouldn't bestow GOAT status on him just yet. He'll more than likely take home an Oscar this year, and it will be well deserved, but there was a time in the immediate aftermath of Titanic that most filmgoers hated him and thought him to be one of the worst actors working.

Yeah 18 years ago when he was like 22 years old.
Leo grew up and has been on an incredible run over the last 13 years.

It gets to the question of range. Do you have to have range to be a great actor. I've heard a lot of thoughtful people say no.
As for the Revenant, yes, he deserves the best Oscar. I haven't seen spotlight or a few others, But it ain't exactly hard to scream and cry and crawl through mud. I have to do that shite all the time. I got a standing ovation the other day because people think it's hard to "be distressed"
His best acting was in Blood Diamond and The Departed by far IMHO.

He's just not a great actor. He's a movie star. Basketball diaries is his best acting.

My point is he was just as good of an actor in 1997 as he is in 2015. He had already been nominated for an Oscar three years prior to Titanic. That's not even mentioning other films he gave great performances in but was not nominated for (The Basketball Diaries, This Boy's Life, and even Romeo + Juliet).
