I just thinks that means he will be fighting crime in a black neighborhood.

If no one wants social consciousness in a show about a black superhero, with predominantly black characters that has a 70s blaxploitation vibe, then it just won't be for you.
For those that talk constantly about America being a bunch of offended pussies, you guys sure are sensitive.
It's okay to like black people, as long as they're not doing black people things.

Might not be your cup of tea.
If its like the early (and probably the later too) comic book storylines it dealt with black villains as well as a black heroes to a large extent.
But I doubt it will ignore race entirely. So if that is something that bothers you, you probably won't care for it.

I think i woudl be upset if like the main villains are all racist cops. and Luke Cage spends every episode getting shot at for being black.
I am sure at some point that will be delt with but I think it is going to go way more into black on black crime and the morals of crime to get out of the hood and stuff liek that.
But who knows. I just hope he punches some people.

Damn. I'm watching the first episode, and they are already going after the destruction of the nuclear family. This show is going to ruffle some feathers.
Fantastic so far.

Mahershala Ali is a motherfricking boss so far. These shows are only as good as their villains, and he is killing it.

So, I guess Diamondback and Shades weren't childhood friends of Cage's in this version?

The lead actor in "Marvel's Luke Cage"told the Huffington Post Friday that the new Netflix show about a super-strong, bulletproof black man is “a nod” to Trayvon Martin and other blacks killed by police. "I can't imagine anything a black man would want to be more right now than bulletproof,” actor Mike Colter, who plays Cage, AKA Power Man, told the news website.
“When you're a black man in a hoodie all of a sudden you're a criminal." "That's something we shouldn't have to deal with, but we do,” he said. “It's a double standard. We can't cover our head when it's cold and raining because God forbid someone sees us and puts our life in danger. We wanted to pay homage to that — it's not something we were shying away from."
Colter said that when the Netflix show was filming, a Staten Island grand jury in December 2014 failed to indict NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo, the cop who killed Eric Garner in a banned chokehold. “No one was brought to justice,” Colter said. “There was no handing out of any sentence. There are a couple other things that happened during the time we were filming. We were watching the news and it was always someone being shot who was unarmed, and there is no justification for it. It's mind-boggling."
