cutting that out would be like turning Green Arrow into a Tea Party member.

Still don't understand how Luke recognized Shades, but Shades didn't recognize him.
They are childhood buddies/gangmembers in the comics.
Maybe they are playing a long game.

I don't know much about him. How would he fare in a fight against Capt America? Spider-Man?
Depends on the location- he's a bit weaker than Spidey nut arguably tougher, he's stronger and tougher than Cap but not as agile. Canonically he's also a lot smarter than your typical ex con would be portrayed.

yeah I don't get that at all its a definite plot hole. It's good to see Frank Whaley again he's a quality "that guy" who when he was younger always seems on the verge of breaking through to main character status.

Looks like they retconned that. Apparently, Shades, Diamondback and Cage were never friends.

You look like a damn fool.

Episode 2 and I like it so far

After Luke slept with Misty, they showed a brief shot of his nightmare when he was being beaten in prison. Shades was there.
I'm guessing the Luke Cage we se now doesn't look like the Luke Cage who was in prison.
I'm about to watch episode four and it looks like that episode is going to fill in the prison backstory/origin story.

First two episodes are real strong. Was that Faith Evans singing in episode two? Lot of nods to 70s and 90s r&b.

2 eps in and I find it just ok. It's very formulaic and slow moving, and so far there's not very much engaging in it. Luke is great as is Pops and Misty, but the pacing and overall story are lacking at this point.
Given the track record of DD and JJ, I have faith this will pickup steam. I'm liking but not loving it, and hopefully that changes.

Damn....Marvel Series villains are so much better than their movie villains.
Cornell is complex as frick.

He's great, he reminds of the Kingpin (show version) in his desire to make things better a little bit and his idea of having a code but still being a monster-- he just lies to himself less than Fisk did.
On your other point- its easier to build a complex villian without the time and story limitations of a blockubuster film.

FInally! Diamondback.
Still don't understand why they changed Cage's backstory so much.
Maybe they thought a reformed gangbanger wouldn't be a sympathetic character or the friends turned enemies was too cliche.

They're obviously taking out the childhood friends part and just going with jailmates. Plus, Luke had the huge hair and beard for the most part, so the shaved head look might be a little indistinguishable

That's not preaching social consciousness there

Alright. They kept Diamondback and Cage's backstory. I can live with that.
