4 guys vs 200 insurgents? Come on...
Let me preface this by saying I did not read the book so I can not quote details chapter and verse. My understanding was that the story was pared down for "movie making" purposes to 4 guys. The team was bigger and some guys were rolled into to 1 character. The real footage of those lost in the fight at the end certainly lead me to believe that was the case. As a movie I found it well done, well acted, and entertaining. For those looking to tear apart the accuracy...It's a movie BASED ON ACTUAL EVENTS not a documentary.

No it was four guys in the book as well. The pictures of the SEALs at the end were from those that died during operation Redwing trying to extract the four man team

I am not completely familiar with the actual events but one of the problems you run into if you hold them while you move up the hill and contact higher is at what point does someone come looking for them.
Also as non combatants they are afforded certain rights that detaining them would violate. These sort of moral and ethical decisions confront our soldiers on a regular bases overseas. It is highly likely that they would have received very lenient punishment as multiple precedents had already been set.

Or why not have two guys watch them while the other two get to higher ground to establish coms?
You can youtube Marcus Lutrell's account of why they didn't do this. He said they could have done that but they couldn't have stopped the goats from following the trail that led back to the village. Once the goats get back to the village without their Sheppard's the village people (militia) go up to find them. It was a lose-lose situation.

I think the first of it is exaggerated to fairy tale levels. 4 guys vs 200 insurgents? Come on...
Come on what? 3/4 died and the fourth would've easily died if not for being incredibly lucky. Is 200 enemy combatants in one place what you find unbelievable?

Some of you should really do some research, read the book, learn a little more about some of the warriors that we lost.

I don't care what happened.........those 4 men went thru hell that day and 3 of them lost their lives in the process.........not to mention the chopper that was shot down trying to extract them.

The whole operation, to include the insertion of the seals, was operation redwing. The insertion of the seals was a bad idea in the first place, the marine BN fought like hell to prevent it.

There is a rule in Afghanistan when it comes to the enemy, the rule is whenever there is a report of how many enemy is in the area, you divide that number by 10. There was not 80-200 enemy combatants in that particular wasteland.

Unfortunately, it was a lose-lose situation the moment they infilled. That team would've caught hell regardless. That account of the dilemma that may have or may not have happened, was not the sole reason of the tragedy. And to put that on Murphy is down right shameful.
